At the minute I have my Network what I'm running 24 \ 7 with all PCs having cases and enclosures but I have about four MoBo's with RAM & PSU's that are just sitting in the cupboard. I'm interested in running an open PC on a desk and have been looking in too it asking Google a load of Q's.

The only problem I can find is the cable management. Things like having kids and people back and forth threw my property isn't a problem as I'd be the only one interacting with the systems.

I mean seriously how cool would it be to have an open PC and all their components neatly placed and organized on my table and have this running SETI. The only problem I can think of is cable management but then again I have cable ties in the cupboard.

Is anyone doing this or has anyone tried this.

I'm not 100 % sure simply because I dont want it looking like a mess and wasting all nigh on this.

Has anyone any ideas or things I could do with something like this.

People have been doing it for decades.

Try searching for mining case, or rack ...

At one stage I was running 3 "table tops". Each with 3 video cards.
Cable management wasn't a problem, I ran the networking through a table mounted 4 port switch to the main network and controlled them with VNC, so there was only the power supply cables to worry about.

My biggest cruncher is an open frame device.
Periodically I will run a trial system that is held together with tape and tie wraps.
As you say cable management can be an issue, but that can be overcome using cable ties.

I have one cruncher which is just a mobo laying flat, no case. It works just fine.
Have it on some spacers to allow airflow to the back of the mobo to help avoid possible hot spots. CPU air cooler does not have to deal with heat build up inside of a case, and the GPU always has ambient air to cool with.
It's up high enough that the kitties can't get at it, and I have no visitors, so I don't care how neat and tidy it looks (or does not.....LOL).
A kitty keeps loneliness away.
More meowing, less hissing. I speak meow, do you?

Have made friends in this life.
Most were cats.
