Thank you Mark for the reminder. Once I get a replacement, how do I properly dispose the old one?

I am reading conflicting information searching the web.
I think the best advice would be to call your local fire department (on a non-emergency number) and ask them. They may accept it from you for disposal or recycling, or should know what local ordinances require to dispose of it.

That's good advice Mark, Plus they know of any company's that service fire extinguishers. They can give you a name or phone number. Most fire departments don't service the extinguishers they use in the line of duty. ( at least the volunteer ones don't)
I would say google a fire extinguisher service and see what pops up.

I got my answer for California on Mark.s BD via my local fire department.
You can just discharge your fire extinguisher and recycle the metal. The chemicals are harmless.
