I would like to build, or have built, a box for the sole purpose of running seti. No e-main,office suite,or freecell, just seti. What hardware/software would I need?

Depends on a couple of things:
- your budget?
- only CPU crunching?
- or also GPU crunching?
- more than one GPU crunching?
- operating system of choice?

If a small budget and no GPUs are required, you can do with any (old) Android v4, v5 or v6 telephone (Android v7 and v8 aren't supported at this time here @ Seti, due to a library incompatibility), or with small computers such as Raspberry Pi, C.H.I.P., Orange Pi or any other small ARM computer (see this 2015 review showing 10 of them).

If a bigger budget, you'll have to say what you want.
To run Seti@Home, you need at minimum one CPU core and 256MB of memory, although that leaves not much for operating systems, so let's say 1 GB of memory.
