This host AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1900X needs to use the Lunatics installer and get the gpu's off the old CUDA32 application. This is the error in all gpu tasks.

setiathome_CUDA: device 1703268 is Maxwell or newer generation, 5.x compute compatibility or higher. Cuda 3.2 or lower doesn't support these.

You need to be running at minimum the CUDA50 application for these new cards. Better still you should run the SoG application available in the Lunatics installer. While you are running the installer to change the gpu application, change the cpu application to AVX.

Again what speed is the memory?

I've got 4x8GB 3600MHz Corsair chips installed on both machines.

Better still you should run the SoG application available in the Lunatics installer.

You can help yourself out greatly by using the latest Lunatics 0.45 Beta 6 application installer available at the Lunatics, Crunchers Anonymous or Mike's World sites. The file is the same at all locations.

I've tried downloading and installing lunatics, but I have no idea what parts to install.

Astropulse v7?
MultiBeam v8 with half a dozen SSE options?
Astropulse v7 (ATI)?
MultiBeam v8 (ATI)?

I can't make heads or tails on these options.

Astropulse V7, choose AVX.

Multibeam V8, choose AVX (it's the best for Ryzen / Threadripper).

ATI, skip it (click on Next), you have NVidia GPU's.

Astropluse v7 (NVidia), enable.

Multibeam V8 (NV Cuda), enable and choose the option with SoG_r3557 in the end (the last one).

The last page with Intel iGPU's skip it (click on Next), they are not relevant for your AMD CPU.

Next window click on Install.

That should do it.

Astropulse v7?
Yes install this on CPU and Nvidia GPU sections.
MultiBeam v8 with half a dozen SSE options?
You only want to select the AVX version.
Astropulse v7 (ATI)?
MultiBeam v8 (ATI)?
You only install this section if you have an ATi/AMD GPU otherwise skip this section.

Cheers.

Jeyl, both Karsten and Wiggo have given you accurate information and instructions that are easy to follow.

The memory should be made with Samsung B-die given the speed. Do you know what speed the memory is running at? The memory speed is on the POST page when the computer boots along with the speed the cpu is running at. The Task Manager in Windows 10 also shows both the cpu speed and the memory speed in their respective sections from the Performance tab.

The memory if it really is made with Samsung B-dies should be capable of running 2933 at minimum or 3200 Mhz. Ryzen/Threadripper runs best and fastest with the highest memory clocks since the memory clocks directly affect the cpu processes. Even more so with TR with the inter communications between CCX complexes in the processor.

I would recommend to start reading through these three Overclock. net forum threads. Primary one is the Threadripper thread. Next is the memory stability thread. Don't be shy, post your questions to the appropriate threads. Lots of great members with experience of this new platform since its inception. We have seen it all and are more than happy to help out new users of the platform.

threadripper-overclocking-support

official-amd-ryzen-ddr4-24-7-memory-stability-thread

ryzen-dram-calculator-overclocking-dram

The last link is to a tool that will show you the best BIOS memory timings for your desired memory clock.

The first thing urgently needed is to run the Lunatics installer and get the machines running on the correct applications. Then you can tackle getting the memory running at its best speed which will improve the completion times for both gpu and cpu tasks.

By reserving a CPU core for each GPU WU it will help with CPU & GPU processing times.
Have you done this for both systems yet?

In the
C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu (if installed on the C: drive)
Open a new file with Notepad, and save it as
app_config.xml
with the following contents.

<app_config>
 <app>
  <name>setiathome_v8</name>
  <gpu_versions>
  <gpu_usage>1.00</gpu_usage>
  <cpu_usage>1.00</cpu_usage>
  </gpu_versions>
 </app>
 <app>
  <name>astropulse_v7</name>
  <gpu_versions>
  <gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
  <cpu_usage>1.0</cpu_usage>
  </gpu_versions>
 </app>
</app_config>

Have you done this yet?
In the
C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu
folder will be a file
mb_cmdline_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_NV_SoG.txt
put the following command line in it and save it (use Notepad only, not Word or Wordpad).

-hp -period_iterations_num 1 -high_perf -high_prec_timer -sbs 2048 -spike_fft_thresh 4096 -tune 1 64 1 4 -oclfft_tune_gr 256 -oclfft_tune_lr 16 -oclfft_tune_wg 256 -oclfft_tune_ls 512 -oclfft_tune_bn 64 -oclfft_tune_cw 64 -cpu_lock

in order to get the most from SoG & your GPUs.

I've never run the TeamViewer host software, but I have run the client on my end. Seemed to be a pretty straight forward affair. Granted people were just checking things out and not configuring anything. Might be a solution after all.

I use teamviewer a lot to help my brother keep his computer trouble free. It is a great free program that is super easy to use and install.

Jeyl, While I do not know any of these people who have been trying to help you personally I do know they have been around on this forum for a very long time and would trust any of them to help me with a seti/boinc issue over team viewer. Most of them have many machines that they keep tweaking to get the best performance out of.

Best of luck and I hope you get those computers maxing out.

Bob

If I can't get the answers here or help on this thread, where else should I go? We've got machines built for Boinc! Why is it so hard to run the darn thing?

If you choose not to follow our suggestions and instructions, and choose not to answer our questions, then how can we help you???

Nononono. That's not it at all. This whole thing just a sad case on my part because the one person who really wants to do this, my Dad, won't lift a finger to learn or do anything about this himself. If he sees anything that doesn't look right, I've got to figure it out, come to you guys and hope I can solve it. He was seriously considering sending these machines out from North Carolina to California and pay someone to get them working.

And so far a lot of these answers have helped me out a lot. Just now we re-arranged the memory and both machines are running at 80%-90% GPU usage! All that from simply arranging the memory properly! And that's because you guys told me to read the manual. It worked! I feel like we're getting close to finally getting these machines optimized.

It looks like you've got the right applications installed on each machine, now you need to make the most of them.

So (for the 4th or 5th time) here are the instructions to do so.

By reserving a CPU core for each GPU WU it will help with CPU & GPU processing times.

In the
C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu (if installed on the C: drive)
Open a new file with Notepad (use Notepad only, not Word or Wordpad), and save it as
app_config.xml
with the following contents.

<app_config>
 <app>
  <name>setiathome_v8</name>
  <gpu_versions>
  <gpu_usage>1.00</gpu_usage>
  <cpu_usage>1.00</cpu_usage>
  </gpu_versions>
 </app>
 <app>
  <name>astropulse_v7</name>
  <gpu_versions>
  <gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
  <cpu_usage>1.0</cpu_usage>
  </gpu_versions>
 </app>
</app_config>

In the BOINC manager, select Options, read config file for the changes to take effect (or exit & restart BOINC).

In the
C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu
folder will be a file
mb_cmdline_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_NV_SoG.txt
put the following command line in it and save it (use Notepad only, not Word or Wordpad).

-hp -period_iterations_num 1 -high_perf -high_prec_timer -sbs 2048 -spike_fft_thresh 4096 -tune 1 64 1 4 -oclfft_tune_gr 256 -oclfft_tune_lr 16 -oclfft_tune_wg 256 -oclfft_tune_ls 512 -oclfft_tune_bn 64 -oclfft_tune_cw 64 -cpu_lock
Once the file is saved, the values will be used by the next WU that starts being processed.

If you make use of these settings, it should be possible for those two systems to make it in to the top 20 or so systems list after a month or 2.
Edit- the 1950X has already made it to number 31.

I give up.

No! Don't give up now!

Ok. Let's try this teamviewer idea. If anyone is interested in figuring out this machine, let me know.

YOU WILL BE COMPENSATED!

Just let me know!

*UPDATE*
Looks like Boinc doesn't want to work on one of the machines at all. Network is good, application seems to be normal, but it says there are no tasks to be completed even though the other machine is running tasks as normal.

Jeyl, looks like the 1950X is doing much better now for both cpu and gpu.

I'd suggest copying the app_config.xml from the 1950X system and putting it into the 1900X system to get the same kind of benefit. You should adjust the

<project_max_concurrent>19</project_max_concurrent> though to <project_max_concurrent>11</project_max_concurrent> to account for half the cores available.

I'd still like to schedule another session at your convenience to do some further tuning.

Well I'm pretty stumped right now as to what the hell is going on with Ted's Threadrippers. I fixed the 1950X on Tuesday and everything looked good. 400 tasks on board for the proper allotment and the SoG app tuned well for the GTX 1080Ti's.

So this afternoon I attempted to fix the 1900X Threadripper. Primary task to reset the project on that host to get rid of the 93~0 "ghost" tasks on it. So I reset the project and get a new batch of work. Then I put the same app_config file on it as the one I put on the 1950X except for reducing the project max concurrent to prevent the overloaded cpu condition it was working with.

I re-read the config files via the Option menu while I had the Event Log open. Saw the cc_config file I put on it and the app_config file read in. Later I looked at Ted's host via my machine since I had them bookmarked. I still see the 93~0 "ghost" tasks on the 1900X after the project reset. WTF! I also am still seeing the stock SoG app tunings for the gpu tasks like the custom app_config tunings are being ignored and not applied. WTF!

I also now see 800 Tasks assigned to the 1950X machine. It is almost as if the reset of the 1900X machine "ghosted" 400 tasks onto the 1950X machine.

Is it possible the servers can't tell the difference between the two Hosts? They both have identical hardware except for the processors. The 1950X is a 32 core machine and the 1900X is a 16 core machine. They both have identical count of 3 GTX 1080Ti's installed. The Hosts are assigned to the same account name. The only difference in the cpu type is one numeral.

Can anyone posit an idea of what the heck is going on with this account? I need ideas and suggestions to explain what is happening and ideas of how to sort these hosts out.

HELP!!

Try disconnecting from the project, move all BOINC folders to trash, delete the trash, then do a restart. Redownload the BOINC, reattach to the project, let it download all components, then reinstall the lunatics then app_config.xml. See if that cleans the confusion.
