Seems like it's a bit quieter this week 4.0 to 5.0
7 day total yesterday in all quakes was 1880 and 71.... 13 miles from here all 3.0 and less.

Hawaii volcano eruption sends lava into residential area, prompting evacuations.

Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted Thursday releasing red lava into a residential neighborhood and prompting mandatory evacuation orders for thousands of people in nearby homes.

Hawaiian County Civil Defense said steam and lava poured out of a crack in Leilani Estates, which is near the town of Pahoa on the eastern side of the Big Island.

Residents in the Puna community of about 10,000 were told to evacuate, Hawaii News Now reported. Officials are going door-to-door urging residents to flee.

"People need to remain vigilant and prepared and informed, and think about their family and business and response plans," said Tina Neal, scientist-in-charge with the USGS Hawaiian Volcanoes Observatory.

A “plume of ash” has been reported in the vicinity of Pahoa.

From what I read it would appear that the eruption is still in progress (nothing unusual in that for Hawaii) and that the big quake was more or less underneath Kilauea.

My sister calld me said a fisher opened New Zealand, so I took a look at it and it's a lava tub and
they had so much rain the rain was escaping through the ground out the lava tub. LOL

Must have had 15 feet of dirt on top of it anyway.

I hope that all those over in Hawaii are doing well and keeping safe, but the news is not very good.

Erupting Hawaii volcano could next spew 10-ton boulders from its summit, scientists say.

The ongoing surge in volcanic activity on Hawaii’s Big Island soon could cause a massive explosion from a volcano’s summit, scientists and Hawaii officials warned Wednesday.

Kilauea, the longest-erupting volcano on the planet, has displaced some 1,700 people and destroyed 36 structures since a shifting flow of underground magma last week burst through the surface in a residential neighborhood about 40 miles from the top of the volcano, unleashing torrents of molten rock and toxic gases.

Scientists with the U.S. Geological Survey’s Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said Wednesday that the movement of magma from the summit out toward the Leilani Estates neighborhood, where 14 fissures have opened in the past week, has caused the lava lake at the top of the volcano to drop in elevation.

When that lava lake meets the groundwater level — which they think is most likely to happen sometime in the next few weeks — it could lead to a series of powerful steam explosions that could shower the surrounding area in 10-ton molten rocks and spew ash as far as 20 miles downwind, the scientists said during a conference call with reporters.

Things arn't looking good over there in Hawaii.

New crack from Hawaii volcano is spewing lava near geothermal plant.

Two new fissures opened on Hawaii's Big Island, spewing lava and fueling fears of violent explosions more than a week after the Kilauea volcano erupted.
Nearly 2,000 people have been evacuated since the Kilauea volcano erupted May 3, sending lava flowing into communities and threatening a nearby geothermal plant.
The 17th fissure, a crack on the ground through which lava pours out, was reported Saturday night, the US Geological Survey's Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said.

"Lava from this latest outbreak is actively spattering," it said.
The volcanic vents, or fissures, have released slow-moving lava and toxic gas into island communities, gobbling up dozens of homes and vehicles.
Another fissure, the 16th one, was reported earlier Saturday and "produced a lava flow that traveled about 250 yards before stalling," officials said.

That vent was about a mile east of the Puna Geothermal Venture plant, where officials removed 60,000 gallons of flammable liquids due to safety concerns.
In addition to the new fissures, USGS officials said an explosive eruption is possible at Halemaumau crater at the top of the Kilauea volcano. Such an eruption could generate ash plumes over an area 12 miles from the summit crater, the HOV said.
There's been a few good shakes to the north and east of us here too.

Cheers.

Very, very lucky not to get hit with a pyroclastic flow.

While Hawaii continues to bubble, Guatemala's Fuego volcano erupts, killing at least 25.

Guatemala's Fuego volcano erupted for the second time this year, killing at least 25 people and leaving dazed residents covered in ash as they searched for loved ones.
The volcanic eruption Sunday spewed a river of red, hot lava and belched thick clouds of smoke nearly six miles into the air, according to the CONRED, the government agency for disaster reduction. In addition to the fatalities, 20 others were injured, it said.
Guatemala's President Jimmy Morales declared three days of national mourning. Survivors described the horror and destruction during the eruption.
My condolences to those affected.

Latest- 99 dead, around 200 missing. 1.7 million affected.

And the lava in Hawaii keeps on flowing.
An ever-creeping wall of lava from Kilauea Volcano has engulfed two entire seaside neighbourhoods at the eastern tip of Hawaii's Big Island.
It brings the total number of homes destroyed in the eruption to about 400.

It's a little of both. The pacific plate is being shoved under the Asian and American plates. So yes essentially the Pacific ocean is being squeezed but Hawaii is a hot spot. The subduction of the pacific plate has no bearing on Hawaii.

World Cup fans in Mexico City celebrating a goal set off earthquake sensors.
Thousands of exuberant Mexican soccer fans celebrated so hard after their nation's team defeated Germany at the World Cup that seismic detectors in Mexico City registered an artificial earthquake.

Bali's Mt Agung volcano erupts again.

FLIGHTS between Australia and Bali have been delayed, cancelled and turned back because of ash from an eruption of the island’s Mount Agung.

More than 20 flights across Jetstar, Qantas, Virgin and Air Asia were disrupted between Thursday night and Friday morning, with passengers encouraged to check airlines’ websites.

Air Asia cancelled three flights between Perth and Bali, and Jetstar 10 to and from Denpasar.

Another two Jetstar flights going to Bali from Perth and Sydney were turned back on Thursday night.
