It was being caused by BOINC. I changed the checkpoint timer to 120 and the disk has quieted down.. On Raspberry Pi’s I have it set to 300 seconds to reduce the writes to the SD card. On my Ryzen’s I have 2TB HDD in them with it set to 120 seconds and a start delay of 2 for BOINC (so the machine can get past the initial start before trying to run 16+ tasks). You specify the start delay in cc_config. BOINC blog |

That's smart for startup with high core count crunchers. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

I do not have BOINC start with the turn on of the computer as it keeps getting updates of the OS which can destroy the NVidia drivers, but that is a good thing to keep in mind. Also, I had to go to 300 sec timer as with 120 the use of the HD only went from 100% to 90%. it now shows normal disk usage of almost nothing. Latest post in the TR thread has a link to der8auer's YT video on what to do with all the PCIe lanes in TR. Kudos to AMD for providing a 0$ cost RAID solution with the latest BIOS and download of the RAID on NVMe drivers. Wow, massive throughput. Finally figured out why THREADRIPPER has so many PCIe lanes (en) Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |
