IMV, this can only be taken 1 of 2 ways.

Backing down or ramping up?

Iraq all over again. And you damn well know Kim is never ever going to agree to get rid of Nukes now that he knows he will have to be invaded to prove they are gone.

So, time for plan C

Doctors Found Parasites They’d Never Seen Before Inside The North Korean Soldier Who Bolted At The DMZ

One issue in particular was the presence of several large parasites, the longest of which was 10.5 inches, in the man’s intestines. The parasites complicated the surgery to remove the bullets from the man’s abdomen, the Chosun Ilbo reports.

“An incredible amount of parasites was found in the stomach of the soldier from the JSA, so we are having trouble treating him,” Lee told reporters. “We’ve never seen anything like it in a Korean person before, and it can bring about tremendous complications and make a prognosis difficult.” The worms were reportedly all inside the man’s small intestine as well.

“We discovered parasites that are simply not found in people in this country,” he explained, “I haven’t seen them in my 20 years as a doctor except in textbooks.”

I guess that is an indication of the level of quality of the foods they are eating. Yuk.

Or how sanitary their living conditions are. Many of those parasites are picked up from dirt.

If the armed forces are parasite riddled so then is the population.

All we have to do is sit back and wait for them to self destruct from their own innards . Har...

Gary, this doesn't hold true with your claim that North Korea has become an advanced modern society that the population is happy to be a part of. Nor does it look like a situation that South Koreans would be happy to become a part of.

It does. You are assuming that to be advanced they must want your western standards. That is not what being advanced is. Being advanced is being able to build what you want when you want. They want nukes and they are building nukes. You assume they want better farming more than they want nukes. No evidence for that assumption on your part. If you want to explore that a bit, I suggest you look up rationing under WWII in the USA. You might start here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_of_Price_Administration

Nor does anything about the soldier defecting say anything about the vast majority of the population. Manning and Snowden being examples the other direction if you wish to claim otherwise.

Nor does it look like a situation that South Koreans would be happy to become a part of.

You again are projecting that Kim would stand and find another enemy to go crazy over and direct all advanced output to opposing. South wouldn't sign up for that. You forget they outnumber the north and any combined government would face that fact. Kim would not be able to continue if they combined. China knows it and doesn't want it to happen as the likely result is a western leaning country putting USA troops right on their border. Don't live in the status quo.

I question if NK didn't exist whether the USA would have a reason to be on the Korean peninsula.

I'm still not as convinced they will 'die for their dear leader' but I have no doubt the y will die because of their dear leader.

If we didn't divide, as with Germany specifically and Europe in general after WW2, into Free and Enslaved Zones...
There is no free zone. Just different masters.
