I checked the Furry Astronomy totals again. I am still in second place, but a new member is close behind and rising several times faster than I. Naturally, I am glad that someone is helping the team so much, but it made me wonder if there was something I could do to speed up my point collection. Any tips?

I'd hate to tell you , but the GTX1050 of the third place man will, if allowed to have its head "eat you", even if he's running the stock applications. If he decides to run the very spectacular "Petri/TBar special app" under Linux 24/7 then I'm afraid its game over for you with your GTX750M on a Mac :-(
He is however a fair way behind you, so don't worry yet, but I dare say a little bit of tuning, and running optimised applications would help your cause a bit.
