A message in Notices suggested that I install Virtual Box, so I did. It installed, but then would not let me see any of my three BOINC projects. When I tried to access BOINC Manager it said I did not have permission. I had no idea what my projects were doing. So I uninstalled it. But now I still can't access BOINC Manager.

Wish I'd never installed Virtual Box. I'm not a power user and am not savvy enough to do stuff like that.

So how do I get back to having access to BOINC Manager without having to reinstall it and possibly losing all my previous work?

By reinstalling it. Reinstalling BOINC will fix the permissions on the program and directory. It will not delete any of the work you have in progress.

BOINC by itself will not have told you to install VirtualBox, nor any of the projects you run because none of them use it.
BOINC may have told you to upgrade itself because a newer version of it was available, and then you have to watch out at the download page which version you get. The one they want you to get is the 80MB one with VBox included, the one to the right of it doesn't have it included.

Don't upgrade BOINC either, 7.8.2 has a couple of bugs too many.

Ageless:
Thanks for your sage advice. In order to reinstall BOINC I had to put it in another folder because the
Install Wizard said I didn't have permission to open change it, delete it or uninstall it. And it would not let me proceed with the install. SO I made a new folder with a different name and SUCCESS!

But the new BOINC Manager was blank so I had to add all of my projects and change all my passwords.

So it's all working now, except my Statistics graphs are now blank. I can deal with that.

Thanks for your rapid response and assistance with my dumbass problems.
