I could throw my car further than i'd trust that company. But it could still take 20 years in the courts to get that final verdict. All the bean counters need to do is give them numbers showing it'd be cheaper to fight it for 50 years than just admit they screwed up & pay the penalty. Grant Darwin NT |

The problem is, none of us consented for that kind of data collection. The USA needs to get away from the SSI# being the IT thing to your identity. Pluto will always be a Planet to me. |

Here in Kentucky, we just recently stopped using the SS# as our Driver's License number, but there's still too many things tied to those digits. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

I wonder if the Equifax executives who sold their stock prior to this announcement will get in trouble for insider trading? The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

I wonder if the Equifax executives who sold their stock prior to this announcement will get in trouble for insider trading? DOUBT IT! So far, all articles I have read stated the executives "were unaware of any security breach.... when the stocks were sold". The timing of the stock sales seems VERY SUSPICIOUS and smells like rotting fish on a Texas sidewalk on a sunny, breeze-less, 120 degree day! |

I wonder if the Equifax executives who sold their stock prior to this announcement will get in trouble for insider trading? Of course, THEY will all say they knew nothing was afoot. But WE know that when it waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck.........the dang thing is a duck. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

The problem is, none of us consented for that kind of data collection. The USA needs to get away from the SSI# being the IT thing to your identity. It doesn't matter what the number is, the fact that there is a universal number is the problem. Street address would be just as bad as the crooks would just use that as the sort key. Even an implanted RFID chip wouldn't be safe, the crook would simply clone the chip. As to the data collection, you consented to it the moment you opened an account with any financial institution. Buried in the six point fine print it says we can/will report you to a credit reporting agency. I was thinking of a PIN number to unlock, encrypt/decrypt your file, but that won't work. You would have to give that up to your credit card, mortgage, etc. company and their system could be breached and then your PIN is floating out there on pastebin. An EVM style chip might work, but all the credit bureaus would have to cooperate or you would have to carry several chip cards. The issue for you though is now you must be present in person with your chip card when you open the account, can't do it over the net or by snail mail. The issue with an EVM chip is how to secure the monthly reports your credit card company makes to the credit bureau and the update report they pull on you as the chip can't be present then. The problem is the need for a three person type of PGP. We have two person solved. |

Equifax and why Identity Protection needs to be destroyed and recreated Isn't the whole industry a con, because if you don't borrow, don't have a mortgage and immediately repay any credit card purchases, according to these companies your credit worthiness is virtually nil. |

I paid my mortgage off years ago and credit cards immediately. My credit score is 823. Like you, I own all my property free and clear, don't carry any debt, and my scores average in the 820's, but a major purchase above my average CC usage usually dings me a few points even though I always pay it off in full before incurring any interest charges. From CNET: Equifax reportedly used 'admin' as password in Argentina Add Argentina to the list of countries potentially affected by sloppy Equifax security. Should you trust credit monitoring company Equifax to keep your personal data safe? The answer to that question may be getting clearer. Not only did the firm suffer one of the largest data breaches in history -- 143 million people's names, social security numbers, home addresses and more hacked, click here for more info -- but experts keep managing to poke holes in the company's security. |

[UPDATE:] OK - Well, this Equifax Hack means this is the FOURTH time I've been notified that my Identity Information has been STOLEN! So far, in the last two years, since the First Hack, I've been enrolled in one Credit Monitoring Service and LifeLock. I'm currently working with LifeLock to remove SOME Personal ID Information found on the Web. Interestingly, MULTIPLE Account Records have been created in my name, and have my current address and relatives' information, too. ONE Record, though, has a blatant INCORRECT Address. I'm working on removing AS MUCH info. as I can via LifeLock Services. Some of the Removal Requests could take as long as a week to get confirmed. I HIGHLY recommend that EVERY ONE OF US do the same, as best as one can... It is impossible to get EVERYTHING removed; but, with effort, MOST EVERYTHING can be removed. Good luck, everyone. TL [EDIT:] USSearch Been Verified ...et. al.... Go to Sites like these, and complete the Opt Out Process. (Or, if any of you, (like me), have access to LifeLock; it's really a couple mouse clicks for each Site found by LifeLock that have your ID Info...) Once complete, your ID Info. will be harder to obtain via Web Searches. TL TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |

Equifax Woes Continue: Work and Salary History is Public Info Now, as being reported by KrebsonSecurity, it’s clear that Equifax’s lack of security within one of their subsidiaries have made it almost too easy for hackers and ID thieves to access detailed employment and salary history of impacted individuals. |
