If by a desert you mean a dry and arid area, then no we don't, as we live on the 53rd parallel north. I am aware that at present that you have little choice but to live where you do. Although why you chose to live there in the first place I am not aware of. There are benefits and downsides to living in many areas of the world. Personally for me the Western Mediterranean area would suit me fine with its climate. However circumstances and finance preclude that. Well it all revolves around income, other areas outside of the High Desert or the Mountains are too expensive, housing prices the closer one gets to Los Angeles gets more and more expensive. a 1200 sqft house could cost from $80,000 to $100,000 in the Desert, the mountains would be a bit higher at $165,000.00, Fontana CA could be near $250,000 minimum, My grandpas old place that was built in 1920 in Culver City CA last I looked was valued at about $586,000.00, Culver City CA is next door to Los Angeles CA.
