I got this message on my Pi 3 and it froze it to the point where i had to hard boot it back into boinc. Any ideas as to what caused it?

Run out of memory?... Have you mounted a heatsink? (The RasPi3 gets hot when fully utilized!)

Also note:

The RasPi3 has a 4 core CPU with 1GByte of RAM that is shared with your graphics...

If you are running a desktop, then that doesn't leave much RAM for applications + 4x WUs, especially if you are running from the SDcard and with no swap space...

Try limiting Boinc to use only "2 CPUs"? (Modify the Boinc "cc_config.xml" file.) Or try running from the commandline only? (No desktop.)

Minor update!

Note:

CPU core amount is set via global_prefs.xml or when in use global_prefs_override.xml with the <max_ncpus_pct>N</max_ncpus_pct> value set to 100 for 100% of CPU cores. The older <max_cpus>N</max_cpus> value isn't used by BOINC 7.
