Message 1883362 - Posted: 12 Aug 2017, 10:09:04 UTC

Hi all,

My Linux box trashed pretty much all of its work units last night. Once that reported through, that box has no units left.

Despite hitting update a couple of times, no new work units are being sent to this box. Is that because the back-end doesn't know they've all failed?

Two things I'd like to know - 1. what would cause a previously-fine box to start throwing computation errors on units? I'm on the stock app, not an optimised one. And, 2., how do I get more units without waiting for the back-end to work out I've got none?

TIA,

Steve.

Searching on the error message, the cause seems to be that something on your system got an update that didn't link properly. The recommended solution is to do a project reset, which might also let you get new tasks afterward.

What I would recommend is to set your cache sizes to zero, do the project reset, and get a couple of tasks one at a time. If the problem is solved, then return your cache sizes back to your normal setting.
... and still I fear, and still I dare not laugh at the Mad Man!

All done - project reset & new project files downloaded but no new units, unfortunately. I'll give it some more time and try again.

I am crunching 8.22 GPU tasks on my Linux box, with a GTX 750 Ti and 384.59 driver, provided by SuSE.

That is because the scheduler has marked your client as unreliable.
The scheduler should start trickling some tasks to you to redetermine reliability soon(tm)*

*soon meaning tomorrow. Have a look here: https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/host_app_versions.php?hostid=8276812

Max tasks per day	9
Number of tasks today	46

All those erred tasks reduced the host's daily quota to below that of what it had already received today. You need to wait until tomorrow to get new tasks. And before you ask, if I remember correctly, every host has it's own randomly chosen "midnight".

Thanks for the info - I'll wait until tomorrow and check all is working.

Now to figure out why the machine burned those units in the first place?

You might want to join the stock linux thread already in progress and converse with Rob. He has had issues with the stock linux app too.

Thanks, I will.

I got some more units overnight but it burned the lot straight away again. Very strange.
