I ran across this nifty little add on to display the old 'double monitor' network activity lights that XP and earlier had. Luv it.
It seems to use almost no CPU, and about 5k of RAM.
I had a different one that I was using, but came to realize that it was tangling my connection up a bit. The one from IT Samples.......it was apparently using some resources behind the purview of Task Manager. This one does not.
Just downloaded the .zip, extracted, and ran the .exe file. You can also set it to autostart when Windows starts.
It's been around a while, and the author does not specifically say it will work on 10, so until somebody here tries it, I am not sure about that. I would not be surprised if some here are already using it.

Sounds useful and I would give it a try on Win10, but as of the time of this writing, the website appears to be down.

Greetings Mike,

I just tried the link and it worked for me this morning.

I got the app a few days ago and it works great on Win7. Thanks Kittyman! :)

So far its working on my Windows 10 rig, however I did hit an issue where it did not know which network adapter to show statistics on. So if you have >1 adapter manually select show statistics

I have 4 physical + a bunch of virtual adapters

Verrry, verrry interesting! Neat little gadget, and it works on my Win 10 w/ autostart. I also stopped it from auto-closing after 5 seconds. It's a shame it is not an adjustable window though. I think I'll keep it.

Glad the site is back up. Hopefully Mike will check back.
And thanks for testing it on 10. Will change the thread title to indicate that.
I personally find it unnerving not to have those little indicators blinking to let me know what's going on from all my years with previous versions of Windows that had it as standard equipment.

Been using this one for years. http://www.itsamples.com/network-activity-indicator.html

I mentioned that one in my original post.
I was using it too, until I recently found that it was interfering with a virus scan that was running very slow. Exit that program and the virus scan sped up immediately. Launched that indicator again, and the virus scan started crawling again. So it was using some resources in the background that my system did not like.

That is when I started looking and found the Gabnetstats version, which does not have that problem.

As others have said, the website in the original post is indeed back up and functioning. I've done some limited testing and everything seems to work fine in Win10. However, this program is not much like the "old Window XP" utility. That was quite limited. However, I found that this one has TONS of information available with just a few clicks (rt. click icon, select "advanced statistics" for example), while the old XP one (as I remember anyway) was quite limited.

Love it -- thanks for posting.

Glad you are enjoying it!
Happy that I found it as well.
Yes, it does provide much more info than the basic indicators that were stock in Windows in the past.
Might help with some troubleshooting if needed.

I too find the Advanced mode quite useful. A lot faster to access than opening the router status page for similar data. Thanks for the tip kittyman.
