I was able to open the file -- but where do I make these changes in the file!

Copy the hosts file to your desktop. Then start Notepad as administrator, open the saved file and make your changes. Save the file. Delete the original host file, and put the edited file there instead. (For Win7)

Does anyone have the IP address for the messages/email system(s)?

I would like to add it to my host file.

Thank you,
Tom

Might also need to use: ipconfig /flushdns for windows.

Nothing corrupted in there - it'll just be empty (timed out)

More useful to use

ipconfig /displaydns
and note what's in your cache while it's working - that'll give you the ip address for this website (setiathome.berkeley.edu) as you were asking.

Looks like the DNS server is back on the job.
All of my rigs have now connected again.

I'm still having issues getting all my uploads to get to the servers. Always a dozen or so in timing backoff and retry. Guess the upload server is getting overloaded.

I'm wondering how all my computers keep getting the SETI servers hosts entries commented out. They can't connect in that state. Unless I notice the building uploads or the messages that no work can be retrieved because of pending uploads, I wouldn't have known to go check the hosts file again. I don't know whether it is Windows doing the deed of some antivirus program. I have Kaspersky on the Win7 machines and using Defender on the Win10 machine. Two different AV programs makes it unlikely that they both are doing the same thing. Unless Windows directs them to do that.

My router allows me to add DNS entries. Then I have the DHCP server pass out the router address for DNS to my machines. That way I don't have to update host files for all of my machines.

That could be a more convenient way for others as well.

Eric has just posted an update - it would appear that the backup DNS server is suffering the same malady - being blamed on building-level power supply issues :-(

You know, that is a very good suggestion and more elegant than editing Hosts. I think my router can do the same and it is my DNS server for my computers.

No more Arecibo tasks to split/splat/splut.
I wonder if it is for good, or just temporary?
Well, 04ap08ab is splitting now - not new, but work.

The only disadvantage I have found is not being able to enter both addressed for the download servers.

I was mistaken. My router does not let me enter the DNS entries for specific websites. Just the two DNS server entries for normal lookup.

I believe it's

At least, that's what I just added to my hosts after a /displaydns lookup.

Anyone having problems getting work over the last hour or so?
Lots of "Project has no tasks available" messages, and Work in progress shows a significant drop over the last hour or so.

My log shows 3 such messages, but atm my Work in progress is maxed out at 200. Probably the first time I've seen that. And my Validation pending is also at an all time high.

If i'd notice it earlier, I could have posted about it earlier.
And naturally now that I've posted about it, the work starts flowing again. We'll see how long it lasts.

Isn't that the way it always goes, post a complaint and the problem resolves ...the Seti magic at work :-)

I'm down to about 50 gpu tasks when I should be at 300. Keep getting the project has no work available. I have changed my preferences multiple times now. This is on the special app machine so it crunches through them especially fast. Anybody else having issues getting gpu work?
