My 'take', understanding I'm not an 'always Trumper' but support the majority of the economic ideas he champions, is that Trump did not 'lose' anything.

My reasoning is that Moore was not Trump's choice, Trump supported Luther Strange in the Primary as I've pointed out several times. Trump only reluctantly got behind Moore as a foil to another Dim going to the Senate.

That being said I don't think Jones is going to be the sharp knife in the side of Conservative initiatives that many expect. The reason is that Jones is going to have to face those voters who overwhelmingly supported Trump in 2016 for whatever reason. They didn't turn out largely due to disgust with Moore and many wrote in Strange or others, basically wasting their vote.

To be re-elected against an acceptable GOP candidate in the next regular election will be a tall order for Jones unless he supports ideas popular to that very Red constituency and votes counter to the block everything philosophy.

As I understand it, blacks voted in very large numbers, educated whites voted for Jones, urban areas voted for Jones, scoccor mom voted for Jones and that is why he won. The rural areas of the state did not. You are correct, it is most likely the state will revert to the previous pattern.
