Just ask him - I know Eric is an Android enthusiast (in that he wants to provide supported applications for this project).
But for that he's known for over 2 months that the present applications return only errors on Android 7 and he's not done anything yet to remedy that.

I have been watching my smartphone painfully munch through its tasks I I want to know where the "app_config.xml" file is :)
There isn't any. You cannot write to the BOINC data directory on the phone unless you rooted it. Rooting a device may make your warranty on it void.

If you want to know, it would be in root/data/data/edu.berkeley.boinc/client/boinc/ (this is a hidden directory). Everything under Android runs from one directory.

Is that so? I find that hard to believe. I suggest that you bring the matter up at your new committee.
SETI science applications are nothing whatsoever to do with the BOINC working group.

What and where do you mean by a "messages area", in this context?

A Q&A forum... though technically Android is a Linux derivative.

That was what I was suggesting. I had forgotten that Android has Linux roots and most people will see a SmartPhone message area and jump right in. But most won't post Android questions in the Linux/Unix message area.

When viewing your running Tasks in the Android app, Touch the 3 bars icon before the word Tasks and scroll up the menu that appears. Event Log is the last item.

Thank you Darrell. This is exactly the kind of post I would like to see in a smartphone message area.

Tom, this recommendation request is Seti project specific request and belongs in the website wish area. This thread is asking about ways to improve Boinc. If you go to the Boinc website, you'll find an Android area.

One problem with the Boinc Android code is that all of the make files and project settings are for a Linux based machine running Eclipse Java. The Boinc Android GUI is written in Java, but the client is in C++. In a Senior project class in school, I was able the successfully bring the GUI into Google's Android Studio IDE and build with the latest version of Android. The problem is with the client being in C++ I was never able to build it using the Android NDK. Since at the same time I was teaching myself how to use Android Studio, being unable to build the client was probably due to my limited knowledge of the Android Studio IDE. Theoretically it should be possible, it is just a matter of getting all of the settings correct.
... and still I fear, and still I dare not laugh at the Mad Man!
