Message 1873707 - Posted: 18 Jun 2017, 0:04:33 UTC

I live in Kentucky, and when I was a kid, we used to take driving vacations, and one of my favorite places we went to was Canada. We visited Ontario and Quebec provinces. Those are fairly far away from Kentucky, but we always took our time and stopped at different points of interest along the way.

We also drove to various other places along the east coast of the U.S., all the way down to Florida, but I really liked our trip up to a northern state, Michigan, where we took a ferry to an island(Mackinac) that only allowed bicycles.

What are your favorite vacation memories?

Janne, I'm looking more for conversation about personal family vacations, but those are funny videos.

My favorite vacation was a sailing trip in took in the early 90's.
I bought a boat in Ft Lauderdale and sailed it to Ventura Harbor.
6 months and 5,000 nautical miles.

That's an amazing trip, Carlos! From what I can see on your map, you went through the Panama Canal. How did that go?

Then you had a very long almost non-stop trip along the western coast of Central America and Mexico. I'd love to read the details. I followed someone's blog once about a motorcycle trek from the U.S. down eventually through the Darien Gap to South America, and it was a great read.

On our coast to coast road trip last year we visited many places.
Colorado and Utah was our favorites.
We loved Moab the best.

I went scuba diving in the Florida Keys, and saw Herman, a moray eel.

In the sixties our family sailed to Karlskrona.
On second day it was storm and we managed to hit the only rock in the sea.
No damage done however.
A couple of hours later we lost our jolly-boat "Bojan" because it was filled with too much water.
Well, after searching for it for many hours we managed to salvage it.
Feels like I'm part of the Griswold family:)

Not really sure I'd want to do a boat trip. Not really into destination flying, either. I always liked our driving vacations because we stopped a lot, and visited points of interest along the way.

I know of one spot in this heat that I'd take a permanent vacation at, Big Bear, it's 20F cooler than Yermo @ 89.9F(Yermo is 109.9F), Grace would like that, even if it is higher in elevation, like near 7,000 feet.

I'm sure Carlos sailing trip was amazing. Especially Ft Lauderdale to Kingston.
The afternoon breeze is terrific when sailing near the coastlines in the Caribbea.
And for points of interest along the way in my case we did a lot a stops.
Stockholm Archipelago and the coastline to Karlskrona has many sights to see.

btw. When we where in the Dominican Republic I thought of renting a sailing boat for a day trip.
Silly me. I didn't.

For me, it was six weeks touring Turkey in an ancient Landrover, in the early 1970s.

Big Bear is a minimum of 71 miles from Yermo, down CA-247, and then CA-18 according to Bing, it's almost due south of My present location, and yeah people do live up there.

A place that I'm watching is for $159,900.00, has 2 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms, and has about 1344sqft of living space, temp now up there 90.7F, here in Yermo 113.5F...
