I am really pleased with the preliminary results of switching to the Lunatics distribution.

For quite some time, lately, I have been experiencing about a 5.5 hour clock processing time on a lot of my basic Seti tasks. I remember it taking more like 2-3 hours. Simultaneously, I have another windows box that is knocking out the basic cpu seti wu quite reliably in about 2.5 hours.

So several days ago I installed the first the production upgrade and then the beta6 upgrade which offers SOG processing tucked under the CUDA processing list.

It looks like the 5.5 hour / wu average processing time has dropped to maybe 3.5 hours on the average.

Since the raw horsepower (gigaflops / core) is slightly less than my i5-2400 I am VERY pleased with the speed up!

Hurray for the Lunatics Team!!!

I'm glad to hear that SoG is working well for you.

I think in this case it's the Lunatics AVX application.

If I am not confused (and I do get that way on this) my Xeon doesn't appear to support AVX. According to the Cpu app I checked it does support both sse3 and sse4.1. For whatever reason, the cpus are running the sse3 version for the cpu processing. Since the apparent drop in the average cpu processing time is well over 30% I am VERY pleased.

Right now, I don't have a clue if I am getting the any lower average times on the SOG app. It does look like however I am not getting any slower times!

So on the whole, the this rig is running a bunch faster without a gpu upgrade (that's on order....).

SSE3 or SSSE3? the triple S E3 application is the better one.

EDIT- just had a look at that CPUs specs- it's an older one that pre-dates AVX.

I just updated my cupid app and took a look. It does list SSSE3. The 3 cpu apps that are currently waiting their turns all say "SSE3" not "SSSE3" in the file names. I am assuming that the file names reflect what is being executed.

So do I need re-run the installer ? I don't remember seeing any available buttons for SSSE3.

The Lunatics Windows CPU apps top out at SSE3, irregardless of what you choose in the installer, if you can't use the AVX path. There are full enhancement CPU apps over in the Linux environment courtesy of Urs and Crunchers Anonymous website.

Without Joe Segur around anymore, we can only hope that someone, maybe Urs can port the Linux SSSE3, SSE4.1 and SSE4.2 apps over to Windows.

Hi all...another great quantum leap for Windows/Intel machines would be a transition to Intel c/c++ optimized compiler, instead of suboptimal Visual Studio.
I have had major issues in build optimized clients for Windows starting from Visual Studio 2010 solution included in optimized branch (i.e it doesn't compile at all).

We had applications compiled with Intel compiler before but Intel EULA colides with GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENS Version 2,
So Raistmer decided to use MSVC now.
