That's an excellent find... it looks like it was just recently posted as well. It does have a couple of kerfuffles I noticed on a first glance:

"Breakthrough Discovery project" I don't think it's called that. The entire project are the Breakthrough Initiatives and the SETI component is Breakthrough Listen.

And your point about people leaving: "The program currently only has around 150,000 volunteers (down from a peak of 1.5 million users" It never "peaked" at that... as per BOINCStats the total number of accounts ever is about 1.6 million, with about 105 thousand active (6.23%.) But there were probably never more than a few hundred thousand active at once.

. . Yes, as opposed to other segments like Breakthrough Starshot. I wonder how that is progressing ??

. . Yep the total number of users of 1.6 Million is historical and represents every Seti@Home account, ever. Just like the total number of BOINC users of 4.5 Million (or whatever it actually is) represents every account ever set up to use BOINC. The only time those numbers were ever close to the actual number of active participants was in the very early days of their existence before any users started dropping out. I wonder if anyone can actually tell what the "peak" number of active participants was at all. But articles like that are intended to hopefully spur interest and future participation, so such details and not deemed necessary :)

However, even with the million-odd CPU cores at SETI@Home's disposal, analyzing all that data is still slow going. Its volunteers only account for around 2 percent of the Breakthrough Listen Initiative's analytical power.

Seti@home represents only 2% of Breakthrough Listen Initiative's compunting power?

Is it for real? Only 2%? seems like nothing...
