As per : https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8101008 From a performance standpoint the AMD card should just be faster yet the Intel units are completing about 3 times faster? |

As per : https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=8101008 I don't know which specific GPU you have, but your results list that it is in the OIand GPU family. Some numbers to consider for a performance comparison. A Radeon R7 240 @ 730MHz is good for 467GFLOPs The Intel HD 4600 @ 1250MHz is good for 400GFLOPs For the OpenCL GPU apps to work most effectively they need need to have a CPU core free. Are you currently reserving any CPU cores or is the CPU normally fully loaded? The iGPU and Radeon might be able to share a single CPU core. It's usually the case that running the Intel GPU results in less processing being done. The iGPUs themselves aren't that powerful, the drivers Compute performance isn't great, and the iGPU & the CPU sharing the same chip mean that there is often contention for bandwidth and the heat produced by the iGPU can often slow down the CPU processing. EDIT- Having said that, that particular video card is right down near the bottom of list in performance, and power used for work done, compared to all the other cards being used on the project according to Shaggies graphs. Yea its a R7 240, should be faster than the iGPU, 2 threads are free for the GPU's. |

Yea its a R7 240, should be faster than the iGPU, 2 threads are free for the GPU's. . . Hi, . . Take on board what Grant said. I can tell you that running the integrated iGPU on Intel CPUs is not a good idea from the productivity point of view and as Grant said, raises CPU temps and slows things down across the board. Try changing your preferences to NOT process iGPU tasks and let the AMD board and the CPU cores work more freely. Then see how the times for both the AMD GPU and the CPU cores look. Especially if you run Lunatics and select AVX for the CPUs. Stephen :) |
