If you would have bought Bitcoins for one hundred bucks seven years ago you'd be sitting on almost seventy five million (!)dollars today!

ROI-wise, I think the saddest example is Ronald Wayne, Apple's third founder. He sold his 10% share for $800. It would be worth about $70 billion today, and this doesn't include the billions in dividends it would have paid.

Excite has a seat at the table... in 1999 some unknowns with nothing but a bunch of code and search algorithms offered to sell them their entire company for only a million. Bah, said Excite. Just a pile of bits and ideas. So they dropped it to $750K. Still no interest. Excite was probably put off by their odd name...

.... Google.

(actually they tested Google's algorithms and didn't think they performed any better than what they had.)

Mine was less grandiose. When the government sold off Conrail back in the 80s, the IPO was at $28/share. After a 2:1 split, it ended up being bought out by Norfolk Southern and CSX in 1999 at $110.

I've had both winners and looser.
My first win was as a kid I heard that Rolls Royce had declared bankruptcy. Price was down to 4 cents a share. I thought it would be cool to wall paper my bedroom with Rolls Royce stock. So I bought $200 worth. I figured 5,000 share would be about right to cover my walls. (I didn't know that you don't actually get paper certificates). Well a few days latter the Queen declared that she would invest in Rolls and save the company. Share immediately went to 32 cents a share. I ended up selling at $7.50 to pay for college. Today those same 5,000 share would be worth about $4.3 million.
