Gun deaths seem viral as well.
Crimea massacre earlier this autumn closely fits Columbine pattern.

Left, Columbine massacre shooter Eric Harris. Middle, Zero Hour TV dramatization. Right, Kerch shooter Vladislav Roslyakov.

From linked page;

The age-adjusted rate of firearm deaths per 100,000 people rose from 10.3 per 100,000 in 1999 to 12 per 100,000 in 2017.
Did you actually read the link Clyde?

Erie County Health Commissioner Gale Burstein said 185 students at Transit Middle School and Williamsville South High School in Amherst and St. Mary School in Swormville may have been exposed to a school staff person diagnosed with tuberculosis.

Notifications have been sent to the parents of all students exposed, she said.

Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection that usually affects the lungs. Students in danger of being infected are those who would have been close enough to inhale the bacteria from the infected person while that person was speaking, coughing or sneezing.

Stem cell shots linked to bacterial infection outbreak

NEW YORK (AP) — Health officials on Thursday reported an outbreak of bacterial infections in people who got injections of stems cells derived from umbilical cord blood.

At least 12 patients in three states — Florida, Texas and Arizona — became infected after getting injections for problems like joint and back pain, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. All 12 were hospitalized, three of them for a month or longer. None died.

Deadly Ebola cousin Marburg found in West African bats

Marburg virus, a deadly cousin of Ebola virus, has been found for the first time in bats in west Africa, U.S. researchers said Thursday.

The discovery means Marburg is a threat in west Africa — where a giant epidemic of Ebola infected 28,000 people and killed 11,000 of them in 2014-2016. The region is crisscrossed by roads and paths and people travel across borders to towns and cities, making it easier to spread outbreaks of infectious disease. Usually outbreaks of Ebola and Marburg are in isolated regions and have been less likely to spread.

Jennie-O recalls more than 164,000 pounds of ground turkey in widening salmonella outbreak

Jennie-O Turkey Store Sales is recalling 164,210 pounds of raw turkey because of possible salmonella contamination, the Agriculture Department says.

Friday’s announcement came amid a continued outbreak of salmonella in turkey products dating to late last year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced 52 new cases of salmonella, bringing the total to 216 infected across 38 states and the District of Columbia.

One person in California died of the illness, and 84 others have been hospitalized, according to the CDC.

The ground turkey products were produced in Minnesota on Oct. 22 and 23 and are labeled with establishment number P-579 on the side of the tray. The recall includes 1-pound, 2.5-pound and 3-pound packages of Jennie-O ground turkey products, which can be found in grocery stores such as Safeway and Giant.

More than 3,000 patients at New Jersey surgery center possibly exposed to HIV, hepatitis

An ambulatory surgery center in New Jersey may have exposed thousands of patients to HIV and hepatitis due to "lapses in infection control" and sterilization, the state's department of health said Monday.

More than 3,700 patients who had procedures at HealthPlus Surgery Center in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, may have been exposed to blood-borne illnesses such as HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C, according to a statement from the center.

CDC reports high flu virus activity

Flu season has officially started. The CDC is reporting some areas are starting to see high virus activity.

As of now, only two states are in the red: Georgia and Colorado. That means they're experiencing high flu activity.

In our area, New Jersey is seeing moderate activity. That's a step below high activity. And Pennsylvania and Delaware are still at low activity.

I've had the flu type A & B. Scary.

Thanks Nick, and Happy Holidays to you.

An American health care worker who was providing treatment to patients in the Democratic Republic of Congo is being monitored at a Nebraska health care facility after possible exposure to the deadly Ebola virus, hospital officials said.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha confirmed Saturday that the unidentified person was being monitored in a secure facility not accessible to the public or other patients. The person is not sick nor showing any Ebola symptoms, but could be monitored for up to two weeks, officials said.

Rabies kills woman after yoga retreat to India

The symptoms started with a pain in her right arm. The patient, a 65-year-old Virginia woman, went to an urgent care center and got painkillers. There was no hint that she in fact was infected with the world’s deadliest virus and was already destined to die – the price for contact with a puppy in India.

Virginia health officials reported on her case Thursday, along with a warning from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the risk of contact with dogs and other animals while traveling in many developing countries.

Congo's Ebola outbreak exceeds 600 cases, WHO says

VIENNA There are now more than 600 confirmed or probable cases of Ebola in Congo, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday.

The majority of new cases occurred in cities and urban areas in eastern North Kivu province, where an Ebola outbreak was declared in August.

Numerous militia groups are fighting for control over the country's rich natural resources in the province, hampering efforts to combat the epidemic in the impoverished nation.

Mass protests that erupted in recent days over a delay in Congo's presidential elections have also frustrated the work of aid officials.

California's flu season death toll tops 40: report

So far, this flu season has claimed 42 lives in California alone, The Los Angeles Times reported on Saturday.

The death tally began in October, when flu season officially gets rolling across the country. The season runs through May and typically reaches its height in February, the outlet said.

Half the deaths in California this season are among people over 65, the paper reported, citing state data. Older people are more likely to develop severe complications, such as pneumonia, after catching the flu.
