I just came into a Brand New Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 D5 2G for setting up a rig for a friend...My question is, How much more output will I get over the RX460 2G that I'm going to pull to use it? I Desire Peace and Justice, Jim Scott (Mod-Ret.) |

Take a look at the results Shaggie has compiled. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=79874&postid=1856948 |

How much more output will I get over the RX460 2G that I'm going to pull to use it? Put some values in to the configuration file to take advantage of the SoG application and it should pump out quite a bit of work. EDIT- and use quite a bit less power to do it as well. Grant Darwin NT |

That My Friend will be the problem...I just don't get it. Also the config file that I run on my other 2 boxes were written by Zalster... I "Think". ;) I Desire Peace and Justice, Jim Scott (Mod-Ret.) |

I "Think". ;) Once you've got it installed and running, post back here and people will be able to help you out. I take it this will go in the Phenom II X4 945 system already running Lunatics? I'd shut down BOINC completely, and disable it in Windows Startup for now so it doesn't restart when the system does. Download the video driver from Nvidia, shut down the system- pull the old card, stick in the new one & re-boot. After it settles down, uninstall the old video driver, do a clean install of the new driver. Re-boot several times as required. Re-run the Lunatics installer & make sure to select the SoG application for NVidia this time. Restart BOINC & if everything is good, all your current GPU work should continue to be crunched by the new video card, and any new work should download & have (opencl_nvidia_SoG) appended to the end of the Application details. If that's all good, then re-enable BOINC in Windows Startup. Come back here, and there should be a few configuration settings available to see how things go. Grant Darwin NT |

Grant, I did as instructed and ran a Fresh download of v44 but there was no (opencl_nvidia_SoG) to be found. Sooooo, I uninstalled Everything again and just installed stock With Zalsters config that he helped me with. Cause it downloaded a CRAPload of cuda 42s and 50s. Stock is running nvidia_SoG's OK so far. What did I Screw-Up? :o\ I Desire Peace and Justice, Jim Scott (Mod-Ret.) |

Grant, I did as instructed and ran a Fresh download of v44 but there was no (opencl_nvidia_SoG) to be found. I think that I'm going to let the stock app level off before putting in the latest Lunatics App. At least as long as the stock (opencl_nvidia_SoG) does not start throwing Errors. |

How many cudas should that card run @ one time without Slowing too much? Not sure exactly what you're asking there. CUDA is the platform and API (Application Programming Interface) for computing on Nvidia's hardware. On that card, the most WUs I would run at a time would be 1. If not being used for daily work, just as a cruncher, -tt 600 -hp -period_iterations_num 1 -high_perf -sbs 1024 -spike_fft_thresh 4096 -tune 1 64 1 4 -oclfft_tune_gr 256 -oclfft_tune_lr 16 -oclfft_tune_wg 256 -oclfft_tune_ls 512 -oclfft_tune_bn 64 -oclfft_tune_cw 64 -cpu_lock should result in plenty of work being crunched. Running stock, you'd need to put it in the mb_cmdline-8.22_windows_intel__opencl_nvidia_SoG.txt file in the Seti project directory. If running Lunatics then it goes in the mb_cmdline_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_NV_SoG.txt file, also in the Seti project directory. Once the file has been saved, no need to do anything else- the values will be picked up when the next WU starts being processed. Grant Darwin NT |

My Question is based on this Old thread where Zalster helped Me...https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=79070 This is my app_config.xml file for MB v8 work. <app_config> <app> <name>setiathome_v8</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>1.00</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>1.00</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> </app_config> You can keep your section for AP in there, and remove the MBv7 part entirely. <app> <name>astropulse_v7</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>0.7</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> I only run 1 WU per GPU (<gpu_usage>1.00</gpu_usage>) and I reserve 1 CPU thread per GPU WU (<cpu_usage>1.00</cpu_usage>). On my system I found the loss in CPU output from those 2 threads was more than offset by the boost in GPU output; with less powerful cards that my not be the case. If you set <gpu_usage>0.50</gpu_usage> that will give you 2 WUs at a time, but with lower powered hardware, particularly with the SoG application I would expect that would actually reduce your work done per hour, not improve it. For the old CUDA applications it was well worth running more than 1 WU at a time even on less powerful hardware, not so for SoG. Grant Darwin NT |

Agree with Grant. With lower end GPUs, it's better to stick with single work units. Top of the line GPUs can get away with multiple work units. Tuning can only help you so much. The only way to know for sure is to compare similar AR work units and see what the time to complete is when running single and when running 2 at a time. If the the time to complete for 2 work units (time divided by 2) isn't better than a single work unit, then it's not worth it. |

Well now the reconfigured rig has run through all but 1 cuda42. If I install the new Anonymous App from Mike's page will it delete the old Config file or should I remove it Manually from all My Boxes? I Desire Peace and Justice, Jim Scott (Mod-Ret.) |

If I install the new Anonymous App from Mike's page will it delete the old Config file or should I remove it Manually from all My Boxes? The app_config.xml file will remain untouched. I'd suggest leaving it there, and just removing the Seti@homev7 section, and editing the CPU & GPU values to the ones you want. That will leave the configuration you're previously set for AP still intact. The Lunatics installer should select the best Application for the CPU, but you will have to select the appropriate GPU application- ie Nvidia SoG. Grant Darwin NT |

Got it...Thanks. :o) Will The same GPU application for Nvidia SoG, Work on my 3 cards? Card1 GTX660sc 2gb Card2 GTX750oc 2gb Card3 GTX 1050 2gb I Desire Peace and Justice, Jim Scott (Mod-Ret.) |

Yes the same app should work, but any fine tuning command lines may be different. |

Will The same GPU application for Nvidia SoG, Work on my 3 cards? Yep. It's not so good on older hardware, but on Maxwell (GTX 750) and onwards it gives about 3 times the output than the current CUDA applications. And even on the GTX 660 it will still produce more work than the CUDA applications can. The command line I posted previously will be good for the GTX1050, and probably the GTX 750 as well- as long as they're dedicated crunchers. If you're using them for general use then period_iterations would probably need to be 10 or higher to stop screen lag & keyboard input lag occurring. If not used for daily use, i'd give it a go on the GTX660 as well, just to see how it performs Even if it's a dedicated cruncher and it results in a lot of lag, then i'd bump the period_iterations up to 20 or more.
