Do you have any idea how frustrating it is when you've typed a long message asking
for help and then you accidentally delete it?!!!

I have a new HP laptop running Windows 10. The only software I run on it is BOINC.
However, I keep getting a message that I'm low on memory and need to close some
programs/software to free up more memory. But why? As I said, I'm only running
BOINC.

I know there will most likely be info you will need about the computer or the BOINC
settings in order to help me. Forgive me but I'm not very good with Windows. (I'm a
Mac.) If you'll tell me what you need, I'll get it. Here's the computer I bought. This
might help.

Thank you for your patience dealing with me and my problem.

Is the limited RAM message coming from BOINC, or from the Computer OS (Operating System) itself?

Calling that a laptop verges on false advertising IMHO, it's more of a net book- very limited RAM (and not upgradable) & very limited storage space.
Having said that, while the amount of RAM is limited, and has to be shared with the onboard graphics, it should still be able to run BOINC, although it's performance will be extremely poor.
I suspect the issue will be the limited amount of system RAM, combined with all the included utilities that generally come pre-installed on such systems.

If you click on search, type in "msconfig" (without the quotes), that should bring up System Configuration, double click on it, click on the Services Tab, then down the bottom click on "Hide all Microsoft services" then click on "Disable all" then OK to save.
When you re-boot, the system should now start without those services running and will hopefully have more free memory to run BOINC.

You'll probably have to make use of Add and Remove Programs to remove all the Manufacturers utilities, which should free up a lot more system RAM.
Or give Decrap my computer a go.
Here is a rough list of stuff that can be removed without affecting your computer's operation, specifically for HP computers.
HP bloatware

Keep in mind, even if you do get BOINC & Seti working, the performance will be pretty underwhelming.
That system really is more of a net book- great for accessing the net, Facebook, emails, word processing etc, but not much else.

When I had a similar problem on one of my desktops, I found this web site that allowed me to determine that this desktop could hold more memory and then point me to that company's compatible memory boards:

crucial.com
http://www.crucial.com/

I didn't find enough information on your model of laptop to determine whether it is already at its maximum amount of memory.

Win10 has a large foot print and looks like you storage is 32GB. Not much room left over. All good advice here. The big one for me is getting rid of the cruft as pointed out.

If you are not sure do not delete. Ask.

RAM is already maxed out:

Processor Speed: Up to 1.66 processor gigahertz
Processor Type: Intel Celeron N3060
System RAM: 4 gigabyte
Memory RAM Type: DDR3L
Maximum RAM Supported: 4 gigabyte
