The news channels report that "Tax Reform" is next, but where is this going when a large slice of the "Tax Savings" that were going to happen with AHCA are now presumably not coming?

It will be meaningless babble, just like the repeal of obamacare turned out. Just another opportunity for Trump to gather information into his dossier. And right before the mid-term elections, he'll be able to use it to point out what's wrong with "the establishment." (and name names)

What a great man and what a wonderful way to be a president.

I think it's fair that everybody should pay the same amount of tax no matter what you earn.
Who come up with the silly idea to tax people who earn more with more taxes than others?

Ya'll need to get off what ever hallucinogen you're on. Or is this the product of "common core new math" brought on by liberalism?

You're right, rentiers 50%, vassals 90%, peasants 99.9%.

Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner to lead US federal overhaul

President Trump's daughter Ivanka to get White House office

Is this Trump character totally insane, or just pretending to be one for some idiotic reason?

What pi$$es me off is the 'horrible liberal media', and every politician that's not a democrat is letting all of this crap go, it's as if no one wants to challenge him. Russiagate?- 3rd page news.

What is going on in my country!?

I agree. But that is not politically do-able.

A step in the direction of fairness would be a totally flat tax. Same RATE for everyone, as opposed to the same AMOUNT as you mentioned.
And while we are at it, income is income, no matter what the source. Treat it ALL the same. Also, get rid of ALL of the exemptions, deductions, and credits. They are just used to 'shelter money' from taxes... aka 'tax avoidance'. Without them, the flat tax RATE could be lower.

The Medicare payroll tax works this way already. x% of your wage/salary, with no deductions or exemptions, same % for everyone (except for some very minor rate increase at the top end of the scale).
The Social Security payroll tax works partially this way with 2 differences. x% of your wage/salary with a CAP on income subject to it... (difference 1)... with half of it paid by the the employer (difference 2)... Again, I think there is a very minor rate increase at the top of the income scale.

What would be so wrong with rolling the Federal Income tax, the Medicare tax, and the Social Security tax all into one, getting rid of the CAP on Social Security income, and making the rate totally FLAT with no exemptions or deductions or credits, and treating ALL Income/Profit (from whatever source) the same? Everyone would be treated the SAME.

The current SS/Medicare taxes are, I think, about 16.7%. Lets say the single FLAT rate would be around 33%. That would be somewhat revenue neutral to what we have now, around US$ 3 Trillion, which is about the amount of individual income tax + payroll tax the US Federal Government takes in now. Plus, it make much of the IRS redundant (Trump would get to tell most of the IRS bureaucrats "You're Fired!"), AND get rid of the use of the Tax Code as an instrument of social change. You make this much ($X), you owe that much(0.33 * $X). Filling out one's tax return would be EASY.

Of course, I would prefer a consumption tax to an income tax, but one can't always get what one wants.

Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016.

What is going on in my country!?

The results of decades of communist/socialist/leftist agendas in the USA.

General Jack D. Ripper: Mandrake, do you recall what Clemenceau once said about war?
Group Capt. Lionel Mandrake: No, I don't think I do, sir, no.
General Jack D. Ripper: He said war was too important to be left to the generals. When he said that, 50 years ago, he might have been right. But today, war is too important to be left to politicians. They have neither the time, the training, nor the inclination for strategic thought. I can no longer sit back and allow Communist infiltration, Communist indoctrination, Communist subversion and the international Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

Of course you would, because poor people consume a larger proportion of their income than rich people do.
