Sunday March 5 2017, 10:43 AM Hi, How to xfer my SETI account to win 10 from Win 7? I presume the first step is to download the latest version of SETI. Then what? Thank you, River Song (aka Linda Latte on planet Earth) "Happy I-Phone girl on the GO GO GO" |

Your computer will probably acquire a new ID when you start using it under Windows 10, but... Copy your entire data file from its default location onto a memory stick (the default is c:\ProgramData\BOINC) from your Windows 7 computer. Start your Windows 10 computer (or install Windows 10). Install BOINC. You may have to provide an email address and password - use the same as you use for your Windows 7 installation. Copy your BOINC data directory back from the memory stick to the same location on your Windows 10 computer, over writing any existing version of the directory. Cross your fingers.... If this fails then you will have to re-connect to SETI@Home as a "returning user" using the same email address and password as you did for your Windows 7 SETI account. Edit - make sure you turn OFF all Windows 10 graphics driver updates, they really mess up things :-( Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Install BOINC. In the interest of permission, I would change that around. First put the data directory into its correct place, then install BOINC and if necessary point the installer to where the data directory is installed. At least installing BOINC after copying the directory sets all the correct permissions on the directory and files therein. |

Sunday March 5 2017, 11:08 AM Hi Bob, THANK YOU and THANK YOU !! Am also very glad to learn to shut off win 10 graphics updates! Good to know. I am on SL (Second Life) and don't need graphics problems. :) Huggs, Linda River Song (aka Linda Latte on planet Earth) "Happy I-Phone girl on the GO GO GO" |

I may be a little late on this, but when I upgraded from Win 7 Ultimate (x64) to Win 10 Pro (x64) 2 months ago, I had no problem with installing BOINC, using the advanced tab to point to the data directory, which resides on a different physical drive than the OS on the machine. This way I don't have to fiddle around trying to place the data directory in another location. After installation, I simply used the existing user signon to reestablish the connection to any projects that I needed. Even though BOINC resides on the OS drive, any projects that I have run on the drive on which the data directory resides. Been doing this for several years and I highly recommend this for everyone. I don't buy computers, I build them!! |
