last week I lost 100 finished WU's that had been uploaded but were removed off my computer before they were reported

Is there any (easy) way to get credit for them??

as of now I consider them "ghosts"

(this was "operator error" ... me)

You could try the recover lost tasks procedure to get them back (if they are shown on the web page), but you would have to process them again.

If you didn't have your computer/s hidden, or you give us a link to said PC, we'd have a better idea to what was going on.

Check mine out and you see that we won't see anything personal. ;-)

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply, but I know what's going on (went on) ... it was a simple "senior moment" on my part.

The hope of recovering the 100 WU's stems from a basic lack of understanding the difference between UPLOADING and REPORTING WUs and why wBOINC needs both

I've never goofed up in this particular timing before ... sigh,... I've fumbled about every other combination it would seem.

If there is no easy to REPORT UPLOADED WUs ... well ... That just gives others a chance to chew on the WUs and the 100 wing-persons a chance to cuss me out (again).

Use to be if you didn't report a completed task you could reset the tasks in the client_state.xml and run it again. This was helpful if something bad happened the first time, such as a driver crash or bad setting. That's not the case anymore, a while back SETI decided they would only use the first uploaded result even if it wasn't reported. So, you don't have the option to run the task again anymore. If you do try to run the task a second time, SETI will match the first Unreported uploaded results to the Second Reported results and deem them Invalid since they don't match. Personally, I rather see SETI use the Results I actually Report instead of the one I Didn't report. Since they insist on using only the First Unreported Uploaded result it kinda makes reporting the task redundant. Why even have the Report requirement if they are only going to use the First results?

Anyway, if you did go through the trouble of having the tasks resent, it would be best to just Abort them seeing as how SETI will give them an Immediate Invalid anyway. Since 100 tasks would take 5 recovery attempts why even bother if you're just going to Abort them. It seems a no win situation.

The hope of recovering the 100 WU's stems from a basic lack of understanding the difference between UPLOADING and REPORTING WUs and why BOINC needs both

Uploading is merely your computer transferring the data of the result file to a hard drive on the server.
Reporting is telling the database that the upload happened and what the outcome of the result was according to your BOINC/Seti applications.

Uploading happens instantly upon finishing a file.
Reporting happens at certain points, if you didn't set 'report tasks immediately'.

Now, simple question, are you sure the not-reported tasks aren't just in your BOINC but not showing, because you set BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Tasks tab->Show all tasks? (The button showing says Show active tasks, because the button show the option you have, not the state it is in)
"Active tasks" are those Running, ready to start (after having run for a bit already) and suspended.
Not active tasks are ready to run and ready to report.

Yup, I'm sure they are gone (from the perspective of my computer).

They are still in my queue as seen from the server "tasks in progress" screen.

Ah well! just 16 hrs of redundant work ... The science moves on without the slightest ripple

Thanks all for the info!
