Message 1851152 - Posted: 25 Feb 2017, 4:45:15 UTC

I am having an issue with one of my machines calling home, I just took a quick glance at my computer list, and noticed that CrunchMonster hadn't connected in 4 days. Went up and took a look at it, says HTTP internal server error, and doesn't connect to the project. I first shut down and restarted BOINC, then the whole computer, nothing changed, keeps getting the same message. Do you think I need to do what you described? The computer just sits and crunches, nothing on it has changed in months, and then out of the blue this happened on the 20th. If I do need to do this, how do I do it? I don't want to do the wrong thing and FUBAR it and the 100's of results it's trying to upload. I did bring up a browser, and can get to the web with no issues. Thanks!

It sounds like you are having a connection problem rather than the problem that myself, Keith, and others are having with the account settings.
Have you tried opening Boinc Manager and going to the transfer tab, highlite everything and hit Retry Now button, a lot. Boinc will not download anything if there are to many uploads stuck.
Worth a shot.
Hmm, well, I am looking at it right now, and under transfers it is empty, but under the tasks tab, there are a number of CPU tasks listed as ready to send, but scrolling down, I see a *crapload* of GPU tasks ( it actually appears to be all of them) showing as Computational Error. Which obviously isn't a good thing, but that doesn't explain the inability to at least report them. Or does it?

After a bunch of Scheduler request failures, the Manager will then download a Master list, has that happened at all? Have there been any AV programme updates on that system that could impact on BOINC? Firewall changes?

No AV on this system, and nothing firewall related either. How can I tell if the Manager has downloaded a Master list?

It'll be in the Event log, I think it's usually after every 5 (or 10?) failed Scheduler requests.

Might be worth giving this a try. In the BOINC data directory (for me, C:\ProgramData\BOINC) if you don't already have one, make a cc_config file
cc_config.xml

In it, put this configuration.
<cc_config>
   <options>
      <max_tasks_reported>30</max_tasks_reported>
   </options>
</cc_config>

It limits the number of results being reported, which makes the file, much, much, much smaller.
If you are able to get a response from the Scheduler, then just keep hitting update a few times till all the work has been reported, then either remove the configuration line, or bump it up to 100 or so.

EDIT- I usually exit and restart BOINC to make sure it gets read- not sure if Options, Read Config files works with that file.

Now would not be a good time to try to sort this out- i'm getting occasional Scheduler errors at the moment.

Not getting any more Scheduler errors, just "Project has no work available" messages (even though there are over half a million tasks ready to go).
*deep sigh*

I'll give it a shot, at this point it's all a crapshoot anyways. ;-)

I would try what grant suggested, limiting the # of reporting tasks.

Reporting 500 tasks at once maybe causing the problem.

Also you may want to look in your slots to see if there is any sign of what happened.

There was an issue several years ago where the servers were in a poor state and reports of tasks had to be limited to no more than ~50 at a time.
Since then I've bumped the value up to 100 & haven't had any timeout issues.

I thought I might as well update it to the latest BOINC version, on the outside chance that it may clear it up, but alas, it didn't. I got rid of one error message about v7, but otherwise, same issue.

Ok, restarted it, and a few things have changed. First of all the v7 errors I thought were gone after the install of the latest version have came back, in multiple lines this time, but the downloads/uploads look like they are starting to trickle in and out, though it sure didn't look like 30 made it in/out in the first pass. I'll keep an eye on it over the next hour or so till I hit the hay. Here is the latest from the event log:

Huh, the web site & forums went AWL for a while there.

That sucks.
Was it just GPU work that errored out, or all work? If it was just GPU work, that means the CPU work was OK, and as it Validates, you'll be able to get more work quickly.

EDIT- it looks like you were able to download a bunch of work before that 1WU limit came in, so it shouldn't take too long before you're back to the usual server side limits.

Good to see you got it up and running again.

Message from server: Unknown app name setiathome_v7 in app_info.xml

I believe this is because you are using an old version of the Lunatics installer. What did you use?

Yup, just checked, appears to be crunching away happily again, thanks guys! Sure would love to know what glitch caused every last GPU task to nuke like that. Not sure which version of Lunatics I used, I thought it was whatever was current a yearago of so when I set this machine up. Would it be a good idea to update it, and if so, how to do it? Just run the installer, and it will overwrite the current version? Will it overwrite my config files, or leave them alone during the install? I know I tweeked a couple when I set it up, I always do.

These messages are due to the existence of setiathome_v7 <app_name> notations in your app_info.xml file. Seti hasn't had v7 Multibeam tasks and applications for a while now. If you want to get rid of those, prune out the sections no longer needed, and if that's a problem for you, post the contents of your app_info.xml file so someone here can do it for you and post the contents sans those entries back for you.

These messages don't do any harm, they're informational messages. Just the server telling you it doesn't know the application.

Thanks for the heads up Jord. I just took a look at it, it's pretty long, but I copied out the important bits, so I will re-run the installer, and find/replace them in the newly created file, should only take a few mins to do.

*edit* I see that the current installer is over a year old, was there some beta version that was SOG compliant or somesuch? Just want to be sure I use the latest and greatest!
