Pets are the greatest blessing, especially for someone like me who spends
most of her time alone. They give unconditional love and give you a reason
to want to return home. My pets - my dogs, mostly - sleep with me every
night. Sometimes they wake me up when I need to be sleeping, but I don't
think I could sleep at all without them. They've become such a fixture in
my bed and in my life.

That's why it's so damned hard when you lose one. It's like losing a
part of yourself. As many have said before, losing a beloved pet leaves a
hole in your heart that can't be filled.

God bless the pets who keep us company and make us feel loved.

For some of us. Our beloved pets are as close to having children as we will get. I know this personally as I had two Chihuahuas as mine. It still saddens me when I think about the hole in my life after their passing.
So try not to feel too bad about their passing for to long. That dark cloud will go away and the sun will shine once more.

Greetings Critter People - I have WONDERFUL news!

I'm a great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandmother!!!!

Peanut just showed up with four darling little raccoon kits.

I didn't want to scare them with a camera on their first visit. I just worked on acclimating the babies to my presence tonight. Raccoon kits are quite trainable and I should be able to take pictures in a week or so.

This "blessed event" means that it is time for one of my favorite summer traditions, a "Name The Raccoon Kits" contest!

Submit baby names by posting in this thread. Next Wednesday evening I will pick the winners. You may submit as many names as you wish, but obviously only four names will be chosen as there are only four babies.

Step right up and submit a name for a chance to be a raccoon godparent!!!

Let the contest begin!

An excellent start to our contest! Thank you, Rob.

Hint: The best raccoon names are unisex. I cannot tell boy babies from girl babies in the first year. After that, the girls become obvious because they have litters.

Han, Solo, Organa, Darth, Sidious, Maul, Tyranus...

Lemmysuchus named for Lemmy from Motorhead, who died in late 2015.

Crocodile Lemmysuchus, a 20-foot-long predator that lived 164 million years ago and was just as ferocious as a Motorhead song.
