The Higgs Force by Nicholas Mee. Very readable and well-reviewed story of the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012. https://books.google.co.uk/books/about/Higgs_Force.html?id=J8YzkU0vXEMC&printsec=frontcover&source=kp_read_button&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q&f=false Managed to get a signed copy from the author at Astrofest 2019 in London 8/9th February. Has some other interesting books too: http://www.nicholasmee.com/ |

From Le Scienze online magazine I read an article by QuantaMagazine.org how the Higgs field (not boson) holds many surprises. The triple Higgs boson decay is a Higgs boson decaying in two Higgs bosons and is heavily searched. From the LHC@home news messages I learn that 10 billion events have been analyzed by the Atlas cooperation, with 784 millions done by BOINC users, about 7%. About one of those millions was done by me. Tullio |

"World Shift" by K. Gorman, a science fiction story and the fourth installment in a series called the Eurynome Code. "Black Dawn" was the first installment. Been reading them on my kindle. Decent story line but the end of "World Shift" left a lot of unanswered questions and so far that is the last book in the series. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Plenty of PI here. A friend brought by some leftover Strawberry/Rhubarb Pi. Apparently everyone brought 1 plus 1 just in case. So everyone went home with one. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

The IMDb Bio of Madge Blake(Aunt Harriet in Batman), turns out this lady was involved in WWII, though in a different way than My dad or uncle were. Madge Blake(left) and Alan Napier(right). Ghost in the Shell (manga) by Masamune Shirow. I can see the changes made from this when the animated movie was made were for the better. Ghost in the Shell: In a world where the human mind can be reprogrammed like a computer, at what point does the human soul end and the cybernetic machinery begin? What does it mean to be human? From Masamume Shiro, creator of Appleseed, Orion, and Dominion: Tank Police. an epic, dystopian tale of politics, covert operations, and cyborgs with too much attitude. |
