It is that time of year when our students have a 3.5 day weekend (they get out at noon today and we have a half day institute, Monday is President's Day), a 2 day week, and then a 4 day weekend (parent-teacher conferences are next Thursday and Friday). I don't get any of that off except Monday, and that's a paid holiday, so at least I get full pay for all of it. Today was a overtime day. All 10 hours at time and a half. So being at work @ $16.50 and hour was nice. OMG, I am blessed then. I make $30.71 regular pay and then OT kicks in. No wonder I am in no hurry to work OT now that I am a 60yo. A standard 40 hour workweek suits me needs just fine. EDIT.... And I am not ashamed nor afraid to mention that rate of pay. We get payed for what we do and what we produce as an end result. My line of work is to build, as specified, one of a kind fire trucks. Every detail has to be minded to, even sometimes the kind of screws used to put it together, or a corrosion resisting grease put upon each one before it is driven in. You have no idea of what my workweek calls upon me to do. These are detailed driven tasks, and each one depends upon the first one being done correctly. It is NOT simply.....assemble a fire truck and kick it off of the line. Even AFTER a truck leaves the final assembly line, it is subjected to the 'final product evaluation' line. And then, the 'check out west' line for a day or so. And only THEN, can a fire truck approach the 'blue floor', where customers take delivery. Not to say that the blue floor is the first chance that customers have to evaluate their merchandise. We are open and honest about everything at Pierce. We have buyers, proposed buyers, bidding buyers, the sales force, and the guys with their nuts on the line walking the 'red line' up and down the production floor at all times of the day and night. I take great pride in answering questions from a customer about anything I am doing. "What was that grease you put on the screw for?" Because it helps to resist corrosion later. "I see a scratch in the paint there....." Oh, no worries. If you watch the trucks later, they go through a full rebuff and if necessary, a touch up on the FPE line. Would you like to see? "That is NOT what we asked for............." We get this once in a long while on the production floor. An aggressive customer. Very rare, I can guarantee you that. But, I experienced one two years ago. I asked him, what would you wish me to do differently? He said................I am just trying to do what I was sent here to do. I responded, and have you? He said.Oh, Christ, yea. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Due to circumstances beyond our control, some staff members were ridiculed, laughed at and generally made fools of during the production of this motion picture. [edit] Kevin Sorbo (who is actually Hercules pretending to be an actor named Kevin Sorbo who plays Hercules, and who has just given the writers the ideas for all the episodes this season up to now, ending each suggestion with "But what do I know? I'm just an actor.") has just revealed the attempted killer Sunny Day (played by Renee O'Connor, a.k.a. Gabrielle) to actually be studio head B. S. Hollinsfoffer (Salmoneus). The deranged-looking cook Norma Bates has revealed herself to be studio security (Morrigan). Whack job Head Writer Jerry Patrick Brown (Ares) says "Why'd you do it, B.S.?" Ares flashes in. "Because you've got the world believing that good always triumphs over evil, and I just can't have that." Executive Producer Rob Tapert (Autolycus) "Oh" Producer Liz Friedman (Callisto) "my" Jerry (Ares) "god" Tapert's assistant Melissa Blake (Dirce and Princess/Queen Melissa) "of" Drunk/druggie writer Paul Robert Coyle (Iolus) "war." [passes out] After a few more lines, Ares flashes out. Security starts to haul off B.S., who says "You haven't seen the last of me! Wherever there's television, there'll always be B.S.!" Kevin Sorbo mutters "Got that right." Melissa: "Excuse me, but doesn't it worry anyone that the god of war is REAL??!!!" Tapert opens his mouth, but doesn't have anything to say. Jerry: "I find it kind of comfortin' myself." Liz: "I wonder if he'd be interested in his own spin-off." Paul (who woke up again): "Wait a minute. If Ares is real, doesn't that mean there's a real Hercules out there too?" They all slowly turn their heads to look at Kevin. "Don't... look at me. I'm just an actor." [looks at the camera and raises his eyebrows] Miscellany that would be too hard to put in context without transcribing half the show: when Kevin first appears, he's driving a red BMW convertible and whistling the show's theme music. A bit later, Sunny/Gabrielle is walking along and whistling the Xena theme. Tapert: Kevin, how'd you like to wrestle Xena on pay-per-view? Kevin: Uh, I'll get back to you.
