After 3 and before 5. 4 is usually IV. Where do you find IIII? David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

After 3 and before 5. I knew about the IV, the IIII, I'm not sure, I've seen that on the face of an old alarm clock I had once upon a time. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

After 3 and before 5. Whether you know it or not, that is correct. I don't know why, but the standard on clock and watch faces is IIII, not IV. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

The problem with using Roman numerals is the Romans never got round to inventing a character for zero, or even the decimal point. I suppose if it hadn't been for the Greeks and the Arabs they would have got to both symbols in time. Which reminds me, it's XVII:XXXVII, so time to crack open an ipsum of cerevisia Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Leave Zero to the Mayans, Babylonians, and Indians, they invented the concept independently of each other and the I think the character was invented in Persia(Iran). Over the next few centuries, the concept of zero caught on in China and the Middle East. According to Nils-Bertil Wallin of Yale Global, by A.D. 773, zero reached Baghdad where it became part of the Arabic number system, which is based upon the Indian system. Our numbering system is both Arabic and Persian, this will drive some into denial, not to mention possibly up the proverbial wall...
