What are you panicking over? Every time you were posed a question that you couldn't answer, you gave your "back foot" answer: "The world's policeman is going home as he's broke"

Nice point by point rebuttal.
I do like your irony sarge. Expecting an adult response from a ditto bot is too much.
Any points you wish to discuss sarge? Be nice to have an adult conversation in Politics for once.

I do see tRump has decided MAD nuclear war is the only option.

Still trying to work up the energy, when time allows, to watch his Afghanistan speech from last week or so. Not quite about North Korea, but related. Also, it is quite likely I will be doing my "mostly not here" disappearing act after posting about the speech.

You have not confirmed it's fantasy. Hitchens' Razor has been applied.

Good question

Bit late asking the question. It is already done.

thanks Gary, I didn't know about this,
how would the 25th be set in motion in this specific case?

Occam's Razor could also be applied.
In my field, there are statements proved that begin with short lists of assumptions. Others with longer to much longer lists of assumptions. If enough other knowledge has been built up, Occam's Razor does not invalidate this.

My issues with your response are:

1) You haven't listed the assumptions.

Say what you will about me. Say, on the small chance that 10 new people (that haven;t been called in by current posters) stumble into this forum. Besides ideology, what's to convince them that you're right and Gary is wrong? You haven't given a thing. Leading to:

2) Hitchens' Razor. (Keep in mind that Hitchens was no fan, at all, of the Clintons.)

"That which is asserted without evidence may be as easily dismissed" or something to that affect.

You've asserted this is as fantasy. You haven't backed it up.

As for the hiding under a rock comment from earlier, you mistake me: I'm the guy that nearly always knows what is behind him.

Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution

It would require others but Mr. Mattis is one of the persons in Section 4. It sure sounds like he wouldn't accept a crazy order without attempting to invoke.

One of the reasons the Never Trumps, the Washington Swamp and The Media. Are held, quite correctly, in less trust and more contempt than Trump.

Mattis, an enabler of the Washington swamp and Never Trumps?

Twenty-fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution

Byron & Gary,

I am not sure just how wise invoking section 4 of the 25th amendment would be in this case.
Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.

Thereafter, when the President transmits to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives his written declaration that no inability exists, he shall resume the powers and duties of his office unless the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive department or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit within four days to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. Thereupon Congress shall decide the issue, assembling within forty-eight hours for that purpose if not in session. If the Congress, within twenty-one days after receipt of the latter written declaration, or, if Congress is not in session, within twenty-one days after Congress is required to assemble, determines by two-thirds vote of both Houses that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall continue to discharge the same as Acting President; otherwise, the President shall resume the powers and duties of his office.

This section was inspired by the rather sad case of President Woodrow Wilson and his... infirmity. Wilson suffered a severe stroke on Oct. 2, 1919. He was partially paralyzed and partially blinded, and was bedridden for weeks. No one close to him was willing to admit that Wilson was not able to be President any more, at least in the short term.

Also note that the 25th Amendment, section 4 does NOT remove the President from his position, only temporarily gives the Presidential powers and duties to the VP as Acting President. Trump could and likely would effectively hold Congress hostage in Washington DC until they either agree with him that he should resume the presidency, or fail to come to a decision within the Constitutionally required deadline.

You really want to start a Constitutional Crisis?

Trump is at least trying to do what he promised in has campaign... trash the Washington DC establishment (which includes the media). Do you REALLY want to remove him from office?

Well, here is what must be done. There is, under the Constitution and the Law ONE way to remove a President from office, forcibly. Impeachment by the US House of Representatives on charges of treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors and Conviction at the trial in the US Senate. That's IT.

Now then, if you just want to restrain Trump's rather undiplomatic behavior towards the DPRK? Easy. Have Congress take back its 'war powers' that the Constitution gave to Congress, but Congress has partially delegated to the President (via the War Powers Act )

Change it to something like... uhh... No deployment or use of military forces or equipment abroad without specific Congressional Approval beforehand (via a WarDec if said deployment or use involves hostilities) unless the USA is under current attack by WMDs.

Or something of that sort... Please suggest changes if you so wish.
