I don't know much about Windows computers but I now have an HP laptop
running Windows 10 and I've installed the BOINC software. I've got it all
set up to run my projects and it does a wiz-bang job when it's active. But how
do I keep it active?

It seems like the laptop wants to go to sleep when I walk away from it, and
it looks like the BOINC software doesn't want to run during that time.

What can I do (settings?) that will keep the BOINC software running and my
numbers crunching when I'm away from the laptop?

Thanks for your help.

Well of course, it's a different interface on every manufacturer's laptop models, but at least Windows 10 has the same interface for everyone.

Windows Start button >> Settings >> System >> Power & Sleep

Choose to either never sleep the display or short 1 or 2 minute on, then Sleep. Both plugged in and on battery.

Choose to never let the System sleep. Both plugged in and on battery. Or if you are actually going to use the laptop on battery, choose a minimum battery level that you will let the laptop get to before suspending BOINC.

Okay. I've done this. Thank you.

When I "close" the laptop (put the top down), does it go to sleep?

When I "close" the laptop (put the top down), does it go to sleep?

That would depend on the settings in Power Options, i'm pretty sure the default is either sleep or hibernate.
