A Depression because he let building a dam?
Still working as far as I know.

Oh no, his policy concerning the national budget was to increase taxes to pay down the national debt which reduced the supply of money in circulation which reduced demand. That caused employers to lay off more employees, who then had less to spend so a self feeding downward spiral was started. If he started more public works projects the results would not have been as severe. It took Roosevelt and his new deal to address the situation. Many books have been written about this topic. There is an academic field of study about it, called economics. The Nobel people think it is important enough to award a prize in it. The moral of the story is that the prudent use of fiscal and monetary policy are valid economic tools.

I think it's more to the story about the American Depression.
Have you read Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck?
Nobel prize?
John Steinbeck got one.
Not for economics of course.
There is no such Noble Prize!

#2 - It's called Democracy. Which, despite all its faults. Is far superior to the alternative.

Yes indeed.
That's why we have to wait for the new election of #46!

Huh?

I will also use this post to amend my comment on Hover's tax policy. He did not increase taxes per se, he did cut federal spending which did reduce the money supply. and cut federal employment. The result was still lower demand.

#1 - This may come as a shock. But most Leaders, even those you support, of almost all countries. Are not that smart.

But you perhaps have to read the title of your link.
"The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2016"
Alfred Nobel has nothing to do with that prize.
For some reasons that I don't know Sveriges Riksbank (Swedish Treasure) started to give prizes 50 years after Alfred Nobel died.
It was NOT in his will!

His will have I published in some thread already!

He got recognition, money and a Nobel prize, even though the founder of the prize and inventor of dynamite may not have approved of it. Then again he may have.

No. He got money from the Sveriges Riksbank. (Sweden Treasure)
Alfred Nobel has nothing to do with that fake prize and Nobel couldn't approve to anything after his death 50 years later.
Do you hear?

Or Herbert Clark Hoover, who lots of people blame for the Great Depression.

He didn't cause it, his policies and many others just made it worse.

OK, OK, maybe I should have said "Making the Great Depression worse" OR "For not doing enough sooner to get out of the Great Depression".
But that doesn't get over the fact that a fair number of people who don't know better, blame him for the depression.

Whatever Alfred Nobel was a bit weird.

BTW. My GF worked for one of his company Nitro Nobel.
She was called Miss Dynamite in the Middle East.

The Arabic word for sincerity is "ikhlas." God judges the actions of people to
determine whether they are sincere. In particular, he discerns whether a person
commits good deeds out of genuine desire to please him or merely to attain the
adulation of other humans. Ikhlas is often translated into English as "sincerity
of intention," a distinction that underscores the centrality of personal
motivation.
