-Am trying to get both my NVIDA 1050's to be used with seti on one of my computers...(T0)
-I do not have a cc_config.xml
-If i add such a file does it override all the defaults which are being used now (or just GPU settings) (and where are the default settings kept?)
-Windows 10
thanx

P.S given a working example i like to think i can figure out almost anything, being an old ex-programmer..... but then I know that if I knew anything, I'd be rich...?

UPDATE: Well it seems that after a few reboots....they both were picked up... I thought the pgm was only supposed to use the first one by default?

If you don't use a cc_config file then BOINC automatically picks the fastest card. But when you have identical cards, BOINC sees them as having identical processing power and will enable both. You only have to use the cc_config.xml parameter <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> if the cards are dissimilar in model or make.

OK, next question... in RE: GPU libraries
In coproc_info.xml, i am getting warnings that various libraries are not found (ATI, AMD, NVIDA) on various computers. Exactly what is it looking for and where should it be... I thought the installs for the cards would put all necessary files in the necessary spots? (one computer found both NVIDA and AMD libraries, so i am assuming something went wrong on other installs)...

thanx

Bad choice of descriptor in my opinion. Not a warning in fact, just a statement that it found the libraries for the type of installed card. If you don't have the type then it can't find the library for it can it? Just one mechanism for BOINC to figure out what type of cards are installed and then which apps to download for the project. Don't worry about the what all the files have in them. Just use BOINC. If it it isn't working, then post the first 30 lines of the Event Log in the forum when asking for help in troubleshooting. That always tells us what we need to know about what is happening.

. . What Keith was trying to tell you is to read those lines as "notification" rather than warning. It is telling you it found 2 Nvidia GPUs but did not find ATI cards.

. . Wrong 30 lines, it might have been better to say the first 30 lines after starting BOINC. In the very beginning of a fresh log (it is started fresh each time you start BOINC) the first 30 lines have all the set up information BOINC detects about your machine. If you close and then restart BOINC then jump into the log you will see what I mean.

Sorry about the miscommunication. Forgot I was talking to a newbie. Yes, as Stephen said, post the first 30 lines of the Event Log RIGHT AFTER BOINC STARTUP so we can see how BOINC identifies the systems components and capabilities. I got from your post that you have two systems that have BOTH an Nvidia and ATI card in them and that one system is not finding the ATI card? Is that the correct assessment?

. . That is what he said. But looking at his details one rig is showing as having an AMD Spectre and a GTX1050ti, the other system is showing as having 2 x GTX1050 cards. So while both systems have 2 x GPUs they are very different. He seems to have made a mistake unless the OS on one or both machines is mis-identifying the cards it has.

. . I am sure he will clarify things for us soon :)

I've been out of circulation for a while so I'm behind on the latest app development.

What are advantages of the SoG app over x41zi ? Does the SoG app normally scale well when increasing work units on the GPU.

What would be typical "one at a time" crunching times on a GTX1070 and GTX750Ti ?

The app seems to behave fairly well on the GTX1070 machine, but I have problems with the other, a Q9550, Win-XP/32, 2G RAM, 2x GTX-750Ti, V368.69 drivers.

When I run SoG on this machine the tasks are continually getting bounced into "Postponed" mode. there is a constant rotation between "Waiting to run", "Postponed" and "running" modes. Even to the point of erroring out because of the 100 restarts rule. This happens whether I'm running 1 or 2 units per card. I'm crunching GPU only.

This is mentioned in the Readme file but nowhere does it tell what needs to be adjusted and how to get around this. The units crunch OK under x41zi.

Any tips for setting up this and the i7-7700, GTX1070, Win 10 machine would be appreciated. I've looked for sample setups but had no luck finding them.

TIA
T.A.

The SoG app can handle the Guppi tasks from Green Banks better on Nvidia cards.
Those are starting with BLC in its task name.

Check for a file called mb_cmdline_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_NV_SoG.txt in the projects folder.
Add the following.

-sbs 1024 -period_iterations_num 40 -spike_fft_thresh 2048 -tune 1 64 1 4 -oclfft_tune_gr 256 -oclfft_tune_lr 16 -oclfft_tune_wg 256 -oclfft_tune_ls 512 -oclfft_tune_bn 32 -oclfft_tune_cw 32
Save as text.

Also reducing your cache to a bare minimum should fix that behaviour until run time estimates get closer to reality.

Cheers.

The issue you encountered on 750Ti is:
ERROR: OpenCL kernel/call 'clGetEventProfilingInfo' call failed (-7) in file ..\..\..\src\GPU_lock.cpp near line 546.

-7 is CL_PROFILING_INFO_NOT_AVAILABLE

It's NV OpenCL Runtime issue. Maybe can be cured by driver change.
As workaround try to update to r3584 (your build is r3557). Newer builds account for such Runtime failures and treat this error as non-important just omitting tuning.
This will leave app w/o tuning benefits but allows normal workflow on affected setups.

What are advantages of the SoG app over x41zi ?

Running SoG over the older CUDA applications will more than double the amount of work done per hour (closer to triple in the case of GBT work).

Does the SoG app normally scale well when increasing work units on the GPU.

Not in my experience.
One at a time pumps out plenty of work (with the right settings). Running 2 at a time gave only a very slight boost in output on the times I've tried it. Not enough to offset the huge increase in Arecibo WU run times when run at the same time on the same GPU as a GBT WU.

What would be typical "one at a time" crunching times on a GTX1070 and GTX750Ti ?

Check my i7 computer for GTX 1070 run times.
Generally less than 7 minutes for a GBT WU, around 4:30 for most Arecibo tasks (5min for some, 6 min for a very, very few, 2:30 for shorties)

I had to give up on my C2D due to driver restarts when running SoG on my 2* GTX 750-Tis and 32bit Win Vista. It has 4GB of RAM installed, but with the 23bit OS and 2*2GB video cards it can only access 2GB.
With a Quad Core CPU, if you were to reserve 2 threads for GPU crunching, and set the video driver TDR delay to 30 or more seconds it should be possible to crunch with that system using SoG, 1 WU per GPU only.
I think I had to use a v37x.xx driver for it to crunch, but with only 2 cores and both being used for feeding the GPUs I would get driver restarts (even after disabling Windows Update- any sort of system activity would result in driver timeouts). A faster CPU and or more cores should be able to run those cards without problems with 1 CPU thread reserved for each GPU WU.

Appreciate Grant's response but the correct answer is...Depends..

It depends on the GPU you are using. The higher end GPU do get an advantage out of running more than 1 at a time on them. But which ones are the real issue. If you are running a 1080 or 1080Ti, 980Ti then yes there is advantages. 1070 is slower than 980Ti so doesn't scale as well (Grant might argue against that) but having had 780, 780Ti,980, 980Ti, 1070s, 1080s, 1080Tis I can say which order they fall when crunching multiple work units at a time. If you want to do multiple on the 1070 you could get away with 3 at a time. Overall hourly production will be slightly more than 1 at a time but in the grand scheme of daily production you will see it is higher.

Good luck with you builds

seti@home on nvidia pascal is the only project creating BSOD on win 10 on my machine when i suspend boinc.
Have no issue with asteroids@home, gpugrid, milkyway@home and einstein@home.

I have an issue with Einstein tasks on Windows 7 machines if I suspend or briefly exit BOINC for a task rescheduling. The machines throw a TDR driver fault that causes me to have fully exit BOINC and do a restart to get the driver back in shape at its normal overclock. I don't have that issue EVER with the Windows 10 machine for some reason. The registry TDR settings are identical across all machines.

I've seen 1070s cause crashes with Einstein if I have them under load then suspend the project. Screen freezes then computer crashes and reboots. So I think it's more a graphic card issue or driver issue than BOINC. My work around is to suspend any work waiting to run and allow the current work units to finish or, individually suspend the work in progress one a time until then are all suspend then turn off BOINC (which is rare for me since these computers run 24/7)

I can have a mix of SETI and MW tasks or just SETI cleanly exit and restart BOINC without issues. Its only when there are Einstein tasks running in the mix do I have the driver restart. I am sure it is a driver problem and not BOINC. The Einstein tasks work the 1070's harder than SETI or MW.

Sounds like a great opportunity for finger pointing.
Einstein blame the driver, Nvidia blame Einstein- it only occurs with their application.
