Winning after voting for the one eyed cat.

Edit: PS what does TLOTPW mean? Shouldn't it be TLPTPW?

We were being quite about that.

I enjoy creative spelling. At one time being able to spell a word in different ways was considered a gentlemanly virtue. Fore example. How do you spell Shakespeare? the Bard spelled it:
Shakespeare
Shakspeare
Shakspere
Shaksper
Shakspe

Take care California. My phone just issued a flash flood warning. I know several friends further north who were awaken by similar warnings. I unofficially declare our drought over.

Snow anyone? This is about 50 miles from my work.

If only the underground aquifers were recharged. That will take several more decades of above normal rainfall.

I had My cable tv service knocked out for about 26 mins, all is ok now, power was never a problem.

Although Speedtest said the Download was 125.04Mbps, and Upload was 9.92Mbps.

Weird, and it's a Sunday, at least Back to the Future I, II, and III are on AMC in HD, I'm currently watching II.

Maybe not. It was only 8 years of low rain that got us in the drought. Two or three wet years could do it. Or just one year with the rain distributed over a longer period.

If fracking has been going on near those aquifers then they may never refill again.

Cheers.

Not with the ethics involving water in the western states, use all you can to your pleasure.

Fracking can only exist where there are shale deposits, in California, those are all along the San Andreas fault system.

Fracking has been done in CA since the early 20's. Shale deposits exist up and down the state. So does the San Andreas. But water and fracking in CA are not an issue. Useable ground water is found 1,200 feet and up. I had one farm with water at 26 feet. Oil is typically 5,000 to 25,000 feet down. It's only found where there is an impermeable layer caping the shale. I have represented oil and oil tool companies and well as hydrologists and water districts. One of the fun things about law is you get to charge as your learning about the industry you are working with.

And water seems to lubricate rock along a fault line, as has been proved in Oklahoma, which causes earthquakes, no matter what people in the Oil Industry say...

And as we've found out here, you never trust anyone involved with the Oil/Gas Industry because they lie, twist facts and never tell the actual truth, but they often do come a cropper in the end when things go environmentally wrong. :-(

Cheers.

Unfortunately, the ground above slumped into the aquifer and it will require some significant hydro-static pressure to lift it back up the the level it belongs at. You can read about some of the issues the subsidence caused for the California Aqueduct.

This part of the drought may be permanent.

Very different formations. In OK and other states oil and water are closer together. Most core logs I have read in CA there is typically a 3-4.000 foot separation. Consider for proof: have you hear of any CA ground water contamination? Claims have been made yes, but contamination ended up being from surface, not wells. Remember I am not in the oil industry. I am in the environmental industry, preventing impacts.

Southern CA has been using up its ground water for a lot longer than the last eight years. I recall there was discussion about ground water levels falling when I was over there in the late 1970s, with boreholes running dry and having to be re-drilled deeper to get water. So its not just your recent drought that has led to today's water crisis, its been developing for over thirty years,, and will take a long time to start to return to normal.
