I was looking for a new project to join that helped medical science and I noticed that a project had closed down and they gave the reason as: ... due to advances using GPUs that rendered the BOINC program redundant Does anyone know what they mean? I know some projects use the GPU That was actually another thing I was looking for, one that used virtual box and ATI GPU's, but BOINC uses both so how could it be redundant and obsolete? |

Does anyone know what they mean? Nope. If you've got a link to their new site people can check it out. but BOINC uses both so how could it be redundant and obsolete? It's up to the application as to whether it uses CPUs, GPUs or both. BOINC just helps with the scheduling of work between resources and between projects. Grant Darwin NT |

I was looking for a new project to join that helped medical science and I noticed that a project had closed down and they gave the reason as: It must be a small set of data that project has to process and can do it in house easier. |

If you've got a link to their new site people can check it out. Apparently they could run all their work on the GPU and a lot faster, they simply ran out of work to supply. http://boinc.fzk.de/poem/ |

So it's not that BOINC is redundant, it's just they don't need to make use of it's resources. Grant Darwin NT |
