CP/M was an old OS earlier than MS-Dos and the Commodore 128 ran it as well as its native mode. It had an edit app which was CP/M edit. I think Edlin was based on that. What a horrible programme it was. Grant Darwin NT |

Ah, now the server message has changed a little, to the more frustrating "This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress". On a computer with only 297 out of 300 in the cache, zero errors and zero invalids.... Still it makes a change from the usual "no tasks available" :-( (The latter would be expected given that the RTS buffer is down to a few tens as I type.) The fact that Berkeley allows criminals onto campus to beat people, and orders security to stand aside, says everything to me about how much care is being taken with the data. Maybe this project has evolved from a science project, to a "food on the table" project? I agree, though wouldn't necessarily use the word 'evolved'. If the scientists involved would stand up and state their positions, then maybe we could find them a better home, than the apparent wasteland they're in. Maybe this project has evolved from a science project, to a "food on the table" project? Yep, and now you know why Nero fiddled while Rome burned. Disappointing to see politics erupt on this board :-( |

Maybe this project has evolved from a science project, to a "food on the table" project? When the benefactor determines no bacteria have been produced in the Petri Dish, and asks for a final report, how long do you keep the Petri Dish? That's easy. You put the petri dish aside, and start on the next experiment. You may then either have a spare petri dish, or stumble on a 'happy accident' (allusion to the discovery of penicillin) "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. Disappointing to see politics erupt on this board :-( Sad truth indeed, when politics affects the science :-( "Living by the wisdom of computer science doesn't sound so bad after all. What is sad is that we are currently working 8-9 year old arbitrary data when we should be working BLC data on this system, https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-telescope-reveals-largest-batch-of-earth-size-habitable-zone-planets-around The last I heard there was a problem with the delivery of any BLC data, that was a week or so ago. Seems odd with today's high speed internet to have delivery problems. |

Have our data transfer drives from GBT been diverted for that project? Cheers. |

RTS down to zero. 38K creation rate. Not enough to keep up with demand. Hit and miss whether you get any work when requested. Still don't have full caches on all machines. Maybe by the end of day. Hope. . . Same here <STOP> Fingers crossed <STOP> :) Stephen :) |

Anybody remembers CP/M edit? . . When all else fails, READ THE FLAMIN' MANUAL! :) A shame most of us like to skip that part ... Stephen P.S. I was sophisticated. I had 2 x 5.25" Double sided floppy drives [360KB] and 1 x 3.5" floppy drive [1.44MB] plus a 512KB Ram disk. It was the bees knees LOL. The sad thing is I still have a whole lot of the old floppies hanging about the place. :) |

Fortran? . . I am pretty sure they were both implemented under CP/M :) |

Maybe this project has evolved from a science project, to a "food on the table" project? . . Hmmm, not really comparable at all. But if you like the analogy it is yours. Stephen :( |
