Message 1831678 - Posted: 21 Nov 2016, 2:24:41 UTC

I'm curious to see how my situation is going to be affected by Trump's election. My state's Republican governor has already enacted plans to roll back Medicaid coverage that was expanded under Obama. In my case, I am a 48 year old person who quit his job two years ago to take care of his mother full-time in her home. She is on Medicare, and doesn't qualify for Medicaid, but I do, because I have no income. The way I'm reading the Republican script, I'm going to lose my benefits. If I dropped my mother off in a nursing home, the government would eventually be paying a lot of money to take care of her. I think I am worthy of Medicaid or some sort of financial assistance.

....the Gardian who is referencing New York Times who is quoting The Washington Post
....to compare getting rid of an advisor (Cristy) and his cronies who clearly will be unable to to the job of a transition team, to a Joseph Stalin purge that sent tens of thousands to die in Siberian Gulag's.
.... better served to report on actual problems than to just spew out incendiary remarks like "Stalinesque Purge".

The equivalent on Breitbart was light on details, low on syllables. Would you have preferred that? Or this which falls somewhere in between: Chaos or cunning? ;-)

Yes, I don't pay much attention to Breitbart for the same reason that I can't watch MSNBC. They are not trustable to give all the facts, rather choosing a twisted version of assembled partial truths. The Gaurdian is worse because they take it to the next nastier level by using incindary terms like "Stalinesque Purge".

But maybe that kind of 'journalism' is what the readers and quoters of those papers prefer to read.

If that's all you took from the two articles, JJ, then I have overestimated you. Thank you for your comments nevertheless ;-)

You mistakenly assume I disagree with the general alarm and uneasiness that Trump's haphazard manner of selecting appointments and government "teams" that is reported in your link Chaos or cunning?
My original statement stands. Your Gaurdian is an untrustable rag, just like Breitbart.

Dear ... supporters: left and right corporate media are corrupt. Do not allow their corruption to go unquestioned. You're better than that.
Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes.

Not certain if this thread is still about 2016 election, but I'll post here anyway.

I am increasingly confused about Jill Stien. What's her thing?

How is it possible to be unable to raise more than 3.5 million in an entire years election cycle as a candidate, and then raise over 6 million in less than a week as a failed candidate?

According to her filing in Wisconsin: ... “significant increase in the number of absentee voters as compared to the last general election. This significant increase could be attributed to a breach of the state’s electronic voter database.” Moreover she said in an interview with CNN - “We do not have a smoking gun, on the other hand, we have a system that invites hacking, tampering and malfeasance.”
She said her campaign had no direct evidence voting systems had been hacked – (something independent experts have also been skeptical about.)

And now she has flipped and flopped over a recount she demand in Pennsylvania. First saying that a million dollar bond (costing $100,000) required by the state $1 million bond order "outrageous", then saying barriers to verifying the vote in Pennsylvania are so pervasive and that the state court system is ill-equipped to address this problem that she must seek federal court intervention.
Stein has said the American people "deserve to have peace of mind." Pennsylvania's top elections official, a Democrat, says there's no evidence of cyberattacks or voting irregularities.

Her suspicious hunch needs the attention of Federal courts for a Pennsylvania recount?
I'm all for free an honest elections, but I'm not sure there is a problem and neither is anybody else including Jill Stein.
So... What's her thing?

It's done, kids.
History book fodder now.

I predict here and now that Trump is going to be the best leader this country has had since JFK.
And THAT is saying a lot, and giving him a lotta faith.
Which I do have in him.

All this pissing about the vote is just that, pissing in the wind.
He won it fair and square,

Hillary supporters to the back now.
Please recognize that your chosen candidate did not win.
And swallow your arrogant pride.

The people have spoken. And you have been banished.
Off to the naughty corner, you go.

What media is free of the label "corporate", NPR? Shouldn't the assumption of corruption of all media be questioned? Doesn't the "their facts are not my facts" dismissal of main stream media undermine the ability of the media to investigate and help us hold government to account?

What are your trusted sources?
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016.

Repeal and Replace the 1st amendment?

I love the freedom of speech and the freedom of expression, but there are reasonable limitations to free speech. You can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded theatre and put people's lives at risk. Should you really be able to knowingly, falsely say someone is running a child porn ring in a pizza shop while the crazies come out of the woodwork with their guns and start shooting up the place without repercussions?

There is the right to say it and there is the repercussion for saying it. The First Amendment allows you to be a fool. It does not protect you from paying the price for being a fool. I might say that fake news might well be prosecutable as inciting a riot. Only question is can a riot be one idiot?

There are a bunch of [redacted] who would like to repeal it so that radical Islamic teachings bring capital punishment.

The false 'Yelling Fire' analogy, has always been used by those who believe they have the Right and Responsibility to Censor News and Speech they disagree with.

Can you explain to me why the analogy is false? Further, regardless if you disagree with the analogy, do you have an answer to the question I asked?

After the continuous Left Wing assault against our freedoms by The Left after the recent election. Thank God that Hillary and her Left Wing Orwellian Speech Police lost.

Who are already screaming that the left can't say LIAR! LIAR! PANTS ON FIRE! because that is a suppression of their right to be totalitarian and only have their view heard.

Worse, instead of politically incorrect (or "PC") of the left, you have the Patriotically Incorrect of the right. That terrible, horrible, no good liberal* rag Washington Post has an interesting OpEd article detailing how the right-wing is just as bad.

* Except the author is a political analyst for the Cato Institute which is a Libertarian think tank.
