Hello world, I know it´s off topic, but because this is the most read thread, I post here: Did anybody but me recognize that Microsoft installed the former optional "Diagnostic and Telemetry service" on ALL Windows 7-machines with the latest "Quality"-Rollup? Greetings NN |

I cannot find a service with that exact name although I installed that Quality rollup. I can find the following services: 'Diagnostic policy Service' (Running), 'Diagnostic Service Host' (Running), 'Diagnostic System Host' (Stopped), 'Diagnostic Tracking Service' (Running) and 'Distributed Link Tracking Service' (Running). I don't know if any of those is a result of the Quality rollup update or not. |

It is the 4. Deactivate it in case of your pivacy? What privacy with Microsoft? Microsoft has a long history of questionable 'telemetry' collection which has been mentioned in anticompetitive cases... And from what I see more recently, with Microsoft systems you have no privacy whatsoever, in a similar way to how Facebook, Twitter, Google and other social engineered sites have developed. Don't find that the case on my Win7 machines. Just checked again and Telemetry and Tracking still blocked and off after the quality rollup. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

I didn´t install this optional update. I think because you installed and disabled it earlier it only was updated to a newer version but not reactivated. NN |

And that's why I gave up with doing updates. Those roll-ups end up including a lot of the ones all of us wanted to avoid during the "upgrade to 10!!" campaign. A few of those services are the green ones in my updates to avoid list. But as I said.. because of the convenience updates, I just quit doing updates entirely. My system doesn't have any of those telemetry things on it. I strongly advise everyone to research all of the updates that are presented to them before installing them to find out exactly what you're about to install. Thank you for your reply and the link to your list. The problem seems to be bigger than I thought before. I hadn´t Windows 8.1 on my radar until now. NN |
