Many of were aware that Ian was a regular at the Seti@home message boards. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He and I often exchanges stories and plans in PM as well as on Café Seti. His collection of Aurora Borealis photos and love of space will be missed. I fee both saddened and diminished. Our world just got a little smaller. You will be missed Ian. Here is a final BEEP!!! |

This is for forever lost Celttooth. Because I played this once for him. In the middle of the night. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Nice post Mark. Thank you. I believe there are things in the soul of a man that continue to exist even after he has left us. And I am sure Celt is still with us. As I hope I am when I leave my earthly form.... One thing is for sure. The toils and troubles I leave behind on that day shall have been forever documented here. And my tears shall not go unnoticed for many years. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

I am so sorry, I only had the great privilege of knowing Ian through these threads, and then for too short a time. And with these threads Ian wove a tapestry of beauty, wit and kindness I will always remember with a smile. We have lost a man of few words but those few words spoke volumes about the man. Farewell Ian, you leave all of us saddened by your passing but infinitely wealthy by having known you however briefly...........":( spam "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

I know I have not been around in quite a while, but I am deeply saddened to hear this. Condolences to the family. Our community has lost an excellent member, such a sad thing to learn. R.I.P. I know I have not been around in quite a while, but I am deeply saddened to hear this. Awwww. It really was a sad thing to learn. And it's such a sad thing to know too. I think it would have been his 17th seti birthday about the time some of our team members were reaching their sixteenths. That would have been so much fun to celebrate... :) he would've insisted on that ;) |

I am not a really emotional person, but I read this last night prior to going to bed and this haunted me for hours. I just really have nothing to say to express my sorrow. There are a lot of names here on the board you will always just "know." I am likely not one of them, but this just really is sad to hear. I will miss seeing him beeps and conjectures here on the board. I wish I was a little better at expressing my thoughts on the matter but to go millennial on you guys this sucks so bad. -"Young" James "To my mathematical brain, the numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational. My condolences also. :-( This is very sad indeed. Ian was a great person and I'm glad I had the chance to chitchat with him in times past. #resist |

Picking up this thread a little late ..... One of the things I like to point out when I speak at funerals is this: When someone touches our lives, whether in large part or small, they leave a part of themselves behind, in our hearts and in our memories. Melvin Ian "Celttooth" Russell touched all our lives. So though we will not in this life see his smiling face (except in pictures), share a story or three, or otherwise enjoy his company as we once did, we will meet again, when our time comes to transfer out of this life into the next. And until then, Ian lives on, within us, and in the Seti@home archives. I'm going to Rocky's, to visit Mike Callaghan's fireplace. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |
