Of course I know exactly what you mean and couldn't agree more.

I was just being a smarta** :)

Can you guys imagine if it was something like:

Johnson (R) vs. Sanders (D) ?

What a wonderful world it would be.

Or even Trump (RINO) vs. Sanders (DINO). The populist Democrat Businessman running as a Republican vs. The populist Socialist Politician running as a Democrat. That would have been an election worth seeing... Which way those States hit hardest by Globalism would have gone...

Don't blame me, I voted for Johnson(L) in 2016.

Truth is dangerous... especially when it challenges those in power.

Eh, my point was to agree with you :)

Maybe I should have said:
Civilized (R) vs. Civilized (D) ?

That way people could have voted on policy instead of voting for...
who will be the next person to leave the Reality Show :)

(I like Johnson & Sanders, that's why I used those two)

On Trump vs Sanders

I've been doing my homework on that one since I first heard the name "Bernie Sanders".

I'm 99.9% sure Sanders would easily have bagged WI. That's after nerding out on WI data.
80% sure about MI (haven't nerded out to my satisfaction).
For some reason my brain has access to ZERO pre-election info on PA but with a post-election 1.2% gap I seriously doubt it would be a hard case to make. Hell JUST millenials getting out of the house would probably be enough (even assuming ZERO votes defected from Sanders to Trump Trump to Sanders).

We'd obviously have to nerd out on a State by State basis but I seriously doubt Trump would have had a chance at beating Bernie. And remember: Obama in 2008 got roughly 10 million more people out of the house than Hillary did in 2016!

I'll be doing WI with Angela over in the Hillary thread... some day ;)
(When I get my act together)

Meanwhile I'd like some help... I'm trying to come up with a reason why someone/anyone who voted for Hillary would NOT vote for Sanders. I'm sure there must be SOME group and I'm racking my brain but coming up empty.

That is an easy one.

So-called 'Yellow dog Democrats'.

That is, those whose loyalty is to the Party (and its 'establishment' ruling elites), and not to a candidate in particular.

Sanders was not, until he filed as a Democrat candidate, a Democrat. Sanders was an Independant, and a self-described Socialist. He had to sue the DNC to gain access to the Democrats' campaign resources (databases, etc.).

Clinton was an Establishment Democrat. Sanders was not. Trump was (and is) more of an Establishment Democrat than Sanders.

Trump did a hostile takeover of the Republican party. He succeeded. Sanders tried it with the Democrat Party. He failed.

My concern I'd for my niece, who as one of the hated groups (especially by Pence) is rightfully worried about her safety in this new America. She is genuinely afraid right now.

I appreciate what Angela is doing to help protect people like her. For those of you that think your lives won't change, nice for you. I hope the cost others are paying on your behalf is worth it.

For everyone else, good luck. Canada helped the underground railway before. We may have to do it again.

That's pretty one sided. Its more than just the few on the far left that are worried and rightly so.
I guess you don't remember that there are two sides destroying our bill of rights.
Equating the lives of slaves with the lives of celebrity activists is perhaps a little bit off.
We don't need an underground railroad, we allow free emigration and the airlines fly right into Ottawa.
However, I strongly feel that all people should stand up for what they truly believe and work to better all humankind.

You mean "gay-therapy" instead of AIDS treatment? Because that's the kind of thing some believe.

Exactly.

Mike Pence advocated for 'conversion therapy'

I am not.

Considering that was the point I was originally making, I find that odd. Maybe it went over your head as the effects this election will have on gay people didn't even make it onto your radar.

Yes, I see it now. I did not look close enough before I responded.
Thanks for your careful consideration.

............................

I was, and still am, baffled by the assumption of several that I support anything other than each citizen's right and duty to stand up for what they believe.
That's the FIRST Ammendment in the Bill of Rights and still the most important.

4. Spend more time babysitting my nieces and nephews, to help shape and guide their young hearts and minds as they grow

They are supremely lucky to have you.

As a new parent, I'd love to think that would by MY job but deep down - and this'll sound corny - it really does take a village. Take it from this introverted, clever kid.

Dad was a Northrop engineer and Mom a Hughes accountant but it was their friends that were awesome role models. Didn't have ACTUAL aunts&uncles but my dad's best friends were "uncle Don" (McDonnell Douglas) who was a Sunday lunch staple and "uncle" Tom (Aerospace Corp.) was in charge of road trips (especially down to Mexico), A's games and - as a Republican from Ohio with a Buick - hippie bashing :) (In a civil manner of course as Roger Ailes' concept of what it means to be Republican had only really infected Nixon up 'till that point, not the WHOLE GOP!).

Mom's friends were Greek but they never really spoke it... the language seemed to be reserved for special occasions like lamb-roasting-Easter-Sunday :) "Uncle" Steve worked for NASA and was the reason I got to see the Challenger at Edwards Base. And the rest of Mom's friends were all Caltech PhDs :)

I coulda been dumb as a rock but with a village like that...

tl;dr
Smother them! Bombard them. If they're extroverts you'll be best of friends and if they're introverts*... there's NOTHING wrong with them! Hang in there and know that no matter how confused, blasé or distracted the look on their face their hard-drive is STILL recording: it's recording data almost IMPOSSIBLE to erase :)

And when they get to the point where they start "correcting" you on the DETAILS of people like Hillary Clinton *wink*wink* it won't be because you haven't done your job. Quite the opposite. They just took the "torch" and ran with it... those opinionated, well-informed, stubborn, righteous little show-offs ;)

* if they're introverts you buy them books by the dozen. Literally :)

What is the possible difference between left and right and what does that mean in reality?

It is fortuitous that I am between flights, Sir, for I have had the time to correct your bbcoding

Both are really the same. It is a silly and incorrect Horizontal Left/Right distinction, and should be scrapped. The Left and Right should be described very accurately, on a Vertical Scale, as Bottom Feeders.

However, there is one important difference.

THE RIGHT admits and revels in their Bigotry, Hatred of those Not Them, and Contempt for The People.

THE LEFT doesn't admit, or Lies to Themselves regarding their Bigotry, Hatred of those Not Them, and Contempt for The People.

The above truth's leads this important question:

If The Left is lying to others... OK.

If The Left lies to themselves... Is The Left more crazy than The Right?

It's very confusing talking about left and right.
The political spectrum is a circle....

The circle is somewhat limited as a gauge of the political spectrum.
For a more complete view of current politics, I prefer the Nolan Chart diamond.
