The IBEW

Ranks right up there with the longshoremen, IBU, and the aerospace mechanics and engineers in this part of the world. Boing would very much get away from their unions but their first major attempt with the 787 really screwed the pooch. Due to F ups with the outsourcing they have yet to make a profit on a dreamliner.

Always with the broad brush to paint your pictures.

Wrong again friend.

I started out in a non-union shop. I later challenged the IBEW Journeyman exam. I was a boomer and worked across the US on non-union rat shops/jobs and union shops/jobs providing for my family.

I am not going to fit in any of your convenient little boxes for your broad brushed paintings.

I've grown tried of your closed minded condescending responses and will waste no more of your time.

Perfect fit actually. You worked in ma&pa non-union shops and medium&small union shops. Never a big anti-union shop.

Big is multiple shops in multiple states. An anti-union employer will close a shop before a union can get formed. Doesn't sound like you have ever worked for one.

As I said you haven't faced the full fury of management hell bent on screwing the employee.

Who is foolish enough to work for/be part of/stay with a company hell bent on screwing the employees?

Maybe you but not me.

Life is full of choices and I own mine.

Have you owned your inability to breathe without oxygen?

What foolish person starts pumping out kids before they can properly provide for them? Not me.

With no oxygen I managed to comfortably retired with a paid off mortgage and zero debt. Life is good.

How are you oxygen breathing folks doing?

Well....
The fire truck factory is a non union shop. Their parent company is a union shop.
I hope they stay non union, because I never believed in unions.
We are treated rather well. Our pay scale is far above average for the surrounding community.
There has been very much mandatory overtime. Almost too much at times, but that pays extremely well.
Hard for me to complain too much when OT wages approach the $45.00/hour range.

And they just instituted a new policy last month.
If you are 60yo or over, you do NOT have to work ANY overtime except on a voluntary basis.
Which I am sure I shall continue to do. But, wonderful to be able to do it as I wish, at my discretion.

So, I cannot ask for more, as I will be 60yo in January. I have one more mandatory Friday of OT coming the week after next, as next week I am using my last half-day of vacation to leave early on Thursday. Which exempts me from any scheduled mandatory OT.

Come January 1st, I get my vacation time for the year back, and I shall use a half-day for the first two Thursdays of the year, and then my brithday exempts me from any further OT calls.

Not too bad for a non-union shop, eh?

And the plural of anecdote is? Anyone?
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

Ah, I see.
Glad you are able to choose to deep sea dive and go to the Moon without special apparati.

P.S.-I have no children. Where did that come from??
