My Alienware (the original from when Dell purchased Alienware ~ 2006) finally gave up. It was stripped of everything but the OS & Boinc, my MacAir died in August (new in 2009) and I fear my iMac (new in 2009) is not far behind - the disk is partiioned so maybe that is the problem with the random CPU issues. There was a Dell LT that also was a weather underground station that ran BOINC, but it failed over a year ago.
So on to new and hopefully a machine that will outlive me.

Just frustrating hardware day. "Never give up never surrender," I thought it was a funny movie.

i don't have a lot of experience with laptops, but were you able to find out which part broke? my pc's stop working either when RAM or PSU go bad. if 3 computers stopped working with hardware issues within a short period of time, were they all in the same power outlet? maybe need a surge protector?
