Slightly early lunch Ping!

Oh my yes it's early. I am still working on my first cup of coffee.

Only about 10 minutes earlier than normal.

Waiting for My ankles to stop hurting, I've been driving and cooped up in a car for about 4.5 hours, just driving friends about.

A euphemism break every couple of hours is also a good chance to stretch your legs.

Ping!

On the first trip I didn't feel like getting out, I was tired today, the 2nd trip was shorter. It's the fact that My car is cramped, My right knee hits the dash, I dare not stretch or I'll break another rare drivers seat...

My last car was a 2006 Mustang GT, it was more comfortable, but on freezing nights the car battery would be drained by Count Master Power Relay, so I got rid of it and got this car, I should have got the Orange 2007 instead, I'd be mostly happy. The 2005-2016 Mustangs are wider than an Escort zx2 sport hot coupe, plus most parts are more plentiful.

Leg room isn't exactly plentiful in the TB, but it's not a problem either. On a long highway drive, I can engage the cruise control and fold one leg under the other (as long as I keep one free to hit the brake if I need to).

About bedtime Ping!

Noise win. At work I am writing a 300 page report on the noise effects of high speed trains. Working with a team of acoustic engineers and boy is it complex. Funny thing most of the track that I am writing about will be under ground. So no one will hear it. So do noise calculations matter when there is no one to hear them?

Do the calculations matter?

I'd say yes, the calculations will or should refute any claims that people or animals can hear trains that are in a tunnel underground.

Do noise levels and durations have any
effect on the life of the infrastructure?

edit:
Has a study been done to measure to effects the noise may have on the environment around the track?

What about the noise inside the tunnel. Is it louder in the enclosed space? And the effect of the sound pressure wave?

Last I heard people were complaining about electric motors being too quiet, HSR does not use noisy diesels, just electricity.

Now HSR does make some noise, but I think it's mainly from the pantograph and the aerodynamic shape of the HST, the pantograph has small walls near the pantograph to reduce such noise.

The major noise source is the pantograph.
No the noise and vibration do not impact the infrastructure. Building two tunnels. One for each direction.

One "interesting" thing to think about is noise that comes from the tunnel ventilation system!
Head-end pressure pulses can be used to assist the tunnel ventilation, but can in themselves be a source of noise at the ends. Also the tunnel itself can project noise generated inside for some distance beyond the tunnel mouth, obviously this can be reduced by some considerable margin by careful shaping of the tunnel approaches and (this may not work in very arid areas) suitable planting of trees and shrubs.

Noise from trains is a fascinating subject....
