Of the Escort zx2 line I have the 2 year model(1998-1999), that was made in two sub types, the Cool Coupe, and the Hot Coupe, I have the Hot Coupe, Mine is also the Sport edition, which I think means I have 130hp vs 100hp for the non sport version, the s/r version has the 143hp engine, Me I get 33mpg out of a 2.0L zetec engine, but then I have a K&N air filter, Motor Craft Platinum plugs, Royal Purple 5w30 motor oil which is advertised for engines like Mine, before I used this oil if I floored the throttle I'd put out a smoke screen, now? No smoke. I added cruise control to the car from parts I had bought off ebay years back, but then the car was already wired for this and I was told it was a popular thing to do, the Hot Coupe didn't come with Cruise Control as part of the package.

You're lucky over there, We received the low power versions, sales weren't too hot over here, which is why the cool and hot types were discontinued after 1999, from then on it was just a zx2, the zx3 and zx4 are the Focus series, which has the same Zetec 2.0L engine as the zx2(but otherwise has very little in common w/a zx2), My zx2 exhaust is bigger than most cars that are of a similar type to Mine, is it stock? I think so, since I still have Cats upstream, and the car passes smog, which is due this year, and which I pass every year, I don't even drip oil anymore since the valve cover gasket was replaced, smog here does both a tailpipe and a visual inspection, some parts of CA also do a treadmill type test, this area doesn't do that. Oh and the redline is at 6500rpm, of course seeing that happen is very much dependent on the tach working correctly or not, sometimes the tach will stay at zero, only to suddenly come to life and then later on drop back to zero when running, I've even had the tach say it was running at 8000rpm, that I do not believe, since I've read these tachs have a problem and Ford could have fixed it, but didn't, I do have a replacement from another zx2 in a speedo assembly, eventually I'll get that installed and the odometer matched to what the current one says. What's the problem with the tach? I think the tach jumps out of gear, though I could be wrong, the method for getting this sleepy tach to work again doesn't always work, that's to pound the dash over the tach until it does or until one gives up in frustration, and a 3rd party replacement? There isn't one that I know of.

I don't as a rule always shove the revs to the max, though sometimes one doesn't get much choice, take a fwy on ramp, some are just too short, the local ones are ok, but some, where there is some construction going on are a pain, and semis act more like Star Destroyers out of Star Wars sometimes and won't give way, others will give way to merging traffic.

Most slip roads onto motorways in the UK, are of a reasonable length, but yes large articulated lorries (semis) are a law unto themselves and certainly you don't argue with them, their braking distance and sheer weight is not to be ignored. Sometimes you do have to "gun" the car to merge in and keep pace with the traffic but my eye is on that rev counter. And if I get flashed, cut up, or horned at tough. You can always pullover to the middle lane, then drop in behind them, take down the reg plate and report them to the police.

But it is up you to pick a safe time to merge in, mind you the queue behind you might get impatient, that is the other problem. It's all a question of judgement If I drove on motorways everyday I would certainly get a dash cam.

Some on ramps and a few fwy interchanges in CA(I don't know about anywhere else, so YMMV) also have red and green traffic lights, to try and regulate the flow of vehicles, out here the population is lower, so We don't have that.

And yes, Semis are a law unto themselves, kind of like a rhino is...

Worst of all are cyclists a good number don't stick to the highway code , going through red lights etc like they are so much better than everybody else . They are the most dangerous and they will come off worst in a crash but it won't be their fault ( put money on that !!!)

Possible bad news, even though Surgery is supposedly going to be on Monday in Apple Valley CA @ St Marys, no one has called Me, to tell Me when to be there, so Monday may be off, and a New Hospital that accepts IEHP and has the proper tools to do the job has to be found(though not by Me personally), there is one Hospital near Hesperia, but they are a for Profit(the same place that worked on My left leg, with no rehab), they don't accept any policy or coverage that they don't sell, so it would be Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in far off Colton CA, beyond 100 miles away, and beyond My reach for the moment. Monday I'm calling My Doctor...

I do need some spaghetti cheese and more time release 625mg tylenol, it's that or pay for gas for the car, what a choice...

You want to try driving a Semi and seeing some of the risks some people take right in front of our wheels, sometimes its very hard to be polite after you have been carved up or have been expected to get out of the way of someone in an obvious hurry for the umpteenth time and thats before breakfast.

What most people forget is that virtually everything from the bricks and mortar that they live in, the clothes on their backs, the food they eat, and even the car they drive plus the fuel they put in it was at some time transported on the back of one of these Semis.

And for those in the UK, I may have been the nut behind the wheel:-)

The whole idea of merging lanes, is, well, to merge.
It's not up to the traffic on the main road to swerve out of your way when you pull in to traffic, nor should they have to hit the brakes to avoid hitting you- merging traffic should get up to speed, then merge in to a gap.
People expecting a car, let alone a truck, to swerve to avoid a merging vehicle, or to jam on their brakes to avoid hitting one means they really shouldn't be driving. And if there's not enough room between you & the vehicle in front of you for someone to merge then you're too damn close to the vehicle in front.

Drive it 5.5 days a week. For as long as I can remember from the 101 just north of Downtown LA to Glenarm St. in Pasadena has been a no trucks zone. I remember this from before I had a drivers license.
Checking http://www.dot.ca.gov/trafficops/trucks/docs/truckmap-d07.pdf It doesn't have a begin date so it is very old restriction, and it indicates "no commercial vehicles over 6,000 Lbs GVR" which covers some SUV size vehicles.

Despite this published no no and numerous signs, nearly every week I see some fool in a 53' STAA rig driving it. As long as he drives the entire segment from the 101 through Glenarm he can get through provided he isn't over 13'6" tall. Caltrans allows regular scheduled bus routes with a special signed agreement too, such as an Airport Shuttle. Of course the LASD jail buses make the run as well. I've seen a couple rigs jackknife trying to make the on and off ramps. I bet that gets expensive having to get a big-rig tow to haul you out plus it will attract the cops, you will get a ticket for sure, because you will block the ramp for an hour or more waiting for the tow. Those ramps date almost from the horse and buggy days so they are built for vehicles of that day which were very short compared to modern standards.

My Lancia Y is a 2002 Vintage. I had to change the control module (Centralina) this year and the two forward shock absorbers. A friend of mine had a 1938 vintage Lancia Aprilia and he had to scrap it when he went to work for Fiat. They would not accept a Lancia in their parking lot. Now Fiat (FCA of Sergio Marchionne) owns also Lancia. But a Lancia is always a Lancia, which was respected by Henry Ford.

Very many drivers either were not taught or have forgotten the basic rules of 'right of way' or 'yield'.
I was almost crashed into the other night coming home from work when a driver coming at me, making a left turn did not realize that I, making a right turn, had the right of way and turned right in front of me, oblivious to the fact the a right turn has right of way over a left turning driver.
Good thing it was not summertime with all the windows down, or he may have heard my wrath.
