Message 1848723 - Posted: 15 Feb 2017, 3:58:03 UTC - in response to Message 1848719.

I usually find that cables fail 99.95% of the time because some people keep wanting to pull them out by the cable and not the socket section itself.

Cheers.

I pull mine by the plug, not by the cable, this cable that broke is about 8-10 years old, so it's something I had to replace, I've spent enough this month.

I can handle small emergencies now, handling of bigger emergencies will have to wait.

It won't be readable, and it has to be, flash will knock out part of the page, and no flash will be too dark, I've tried that in the past.

You don't need studio quality lighting to make the occasional readable scan from a smartphone. I'm pretty bad with camera but a free app like Office Lens from Microsoft does a good job at cleaning up pictures from a phone. If the camera is good enough to deposit check images, it should be fine for a utility bill.

I suspect that they, once things are under control again, will need to do some very careful and thorough soil density analysis of the entire downstream side of the dam to determine exactly what the state of things is.
And, I suppose, water content analysis of the soil as well, to determine if leakage through the dam is liquefying the soil, making it ready to give way. Kinda wondering if some earthquake related damage might have created some leakage through the dam itself underground...........

While visiting family in the late 60's, an observation of the dam construction progress was always a given. Pretty impressive. First time automated construction techniques were used in building the dam and accomplished the feat in half the time that a similarly sized dam would have taken using conventional dam building techniques. No concerns over the main dam failing. Problems have only occurred because of the damage to the main spillway. They were aware of cracks in the concrete several years ago and tried some simple remediation. What is interesting is that the cavity in the main spillway has revealed to not have been constructed with ANY rebar in the concrete. Rebar reinforced concrete has been industry standard practice for over a century. Guesses are that that part of the construction was hurried up to meet schedules and the elimination of rebar was authorized by the regulatory agencies. Also, the part of the main spillway that failed was constructed over fill and not cut like the majority of the main spillway. If the main spillway had not failed with the erosion cavity, it would have had plenty of capacity to lower the lake level to accommodate new inflows without ever having to use the emergency spillway. Now they have two very big problems to fix. There isn't any more water going over the emergency spillway and the headcut erosion has been stopped. The main spillway erosion seems to have been stopped even with 100, 000 cfs water releases. They are dropping big boulders by helicopter into both erosion cavities to shore them up in anticipation of new inflows expected from storms this week and next. Mandatory evacuation has been modified to evacuation warnings and people are able to go home now. Just told to have "go bags" or "bug-out kit" prepared. Same recommendation that we have here in forest lands every fire season.

I'm going to wait, the cable is coming from New Jersey, even though it says Standard Shipping, that could be either 1st Class mail or maybe Priority mail, though Priority is not always chosen, it depends on which is less expensive to the seller really, and the sellers shipment scheduling, ebay thinks the cable should be here by the 22nd of February.

I'm not saying don't buy the cable, but in the mean time your bills aren't being paid and you have a phone that you could try to use.

My bills were paid for on the 1st, as I always do, the Liheap money is a reimbursement of past electrical usage, in 2016 this was $343.00, it's a once a year event, and the cable is already paid for.

Then your reimbursement is being delayed due to a cable that you haven't received yet but if you were able to produce a readable scan with your phone, you could reduce that delay.

It's Federal government funding, which is not due to arrive quite yet, I've got about 2-3 weeks, in any case it has to be readable, or I would have to resubmit the info requested, so drop it please.

In the last few years the Heap program(which includes Liheap) has been at about $3.4 Billion a year, though in 2010-2011 it was 4.51Billion, in 2014 from what I've read the average amount was $424.00, the max is $1000.00, but the max is only seen either an emergency(in danger of defaulting or being late on ones bill only, I'm never late) or if there are more people in the household.

Republicans in Congress have been cutting the amount ever since 2011, when they gained power in Congress, Republicans make the rules, everyone else can only protest or call, write(emails and letters), sign online petitions, I can only do the petitions. But then a Representatives office is not only too far away normally, but I can't stand for long... The SSA can take ones benefits away if one is arrested, this is cause the SSI limits have largely not been updated since 1972.

Now Republicans have 2 branches of government, soon they're hoping for all 3.

Now when I said the info has to be readable, it does, it's very important, so please stop asking Me to go the camera route?

And I wasn't trying to be rude...

Ok I got back from the Urologist today, seems I need surgery, I have a blockage in between My kidneys & My bladder, which sometimes bleeds and causes painful urination, the masses in the kidneys are just benign cysts, I'm waiting for a call to do out patient surgery on the obstruction that's at the top of My bladder, for now I wait.

Glad to hear they are benign. Hope your surgery goes well and solves the problem painlessly and quickly.

I can say from experience that my phone is not capable of taking a photo of a document likely to be good enough to be useful for Vic's purpose. I doubt his phone is either.

If Vic said it that way, he would come off a lot less rude. OTOH*, Vic does tend to refuse to even consider other people's suggestions.

As for worn out USB cables, I usually have a spare or two lying around... somewhere... from all the various things I've bought over the years and no longer use.

*Or maybe it's not the other hand; I'm not sure.

Thanks Carlos, Me too, tight now the Urologist is getting authorization for the surgery, I was in and out of there today in less than 1 hour.

And yes I saw inside, the camera was a bit painful going in, otherwise it was uneventful.

I got some antibiotics to take: ciprofloxacn. Which I picked up at the Vons pharmacy, after the visit today I noticed My right shoulder is hurting some.
