Hi. I have just bought MSI RX470 X 4GB. My feeling are not important, but energy consumption is important. Under full load (BOINC ofcourse) it consumes ~ 170W. It's to much for me, so I decided to underclock and undervolt a card. 1000MHz and 850mV sound fine and power consumption dropped to 95W. All done by AMD Wattman. Now problem: sometimes after changing WU or pause/resume computation frequency doesn't change and it keeps at 300MHz. I tried Clockblocker and it works fine, but performance drops. No data from SETI, but Collatz or PG suffer about 20%. Does anyone have any clue? |

How precise is AMD Wattman, its still a pretty new software tool ? Have you rechecked on the socket with a wattmeter ? _\|/_ U r s |

Yes - I have socket wallmeter. In Wattman itself there is no power consumption shown. Looks like if I have ANY other settings than default, Wattman has problems with energy states. But if default is in use, GPU reach its maksimum. Unfortunatelly MSI afterburner still doesn't work with RX GPU. |

Going to check power-usage on my RX 470 : Found on mine : idle ca. 48w, CPU (3/4) ca. 79w, CPU+GPU (3+2) ca. 188w So roughly 110w (+GPUs idle power) for the XFX RX470 BE (4 GB). That seems to be well within specs on linux. _\|/_ U r s |

I have word from my team mate that his saphire takes 110W as well. Something strange happens with that MSI. |

If the voltage isn't high enough to support the higher clock rate, it won't up clock. Possibly try bringing the voltage back up closer to the default & see if that has an effect. Grant Darwin NT |

@Grant Didn't help. Seems any change to Wattman causes that problem (even few Hz). Must wait for Afterburner. The other problem now is high power consumption. @Urs Echternacht What is Your P7 state (frequency AND voltage)? In my case it's 1242MHz and 1106mV (thats default). Also what power efficiency has Your PSU? (my is only bronze+) PS IDLE (CPU crunching only)55W Full load of GPU 225W... |

I have found info that that modle of MSI takes 170W... I'm going to return it to shop as that power consumption is to high for me for 24/24 computing. Thx for replies |
